Empire: Total War continues, as the native mercenary army of the Netherlands prepares for battle with the Indian expedition to decide the fate of Antigua. Itās safe to say that history has somewhat gone off the rails at this point, yes.

Haven't clocked in since episode six. Glad that the focus is still on Westphalia.
Given your a Trading empire, investing in navel Tech is DEFINATELY a priority id say, Naval Arcitecture unlocked the Drydock which gets you third rates, Second rates and….possibly first rates. Then you can upgrade it to ETHER a Navel hospital (which gives all your ships a few XP lvls to start with) OR a STEAM DRYDOCK, which gets you HEAVY FIRST RATES, STEAMSHIPS and RAZEES. Carronades unlocks the Carronade Frigate.
Also seriously might want to build more trade ships or BETTER escorts for them. Edit: I THINK if you push into northern India you might be able to hire Gurkhas.
Westphalia is a Maginot Line
May this series never end, I look forward to it everyday
John, firing at cannons at range is asking to be annihilated. They resist small arms fire and small arms do not stop the operation of the cocking cannon! leaving them free to decimate your units with canister shot.
Always engage canons in melee as it instantly forces the crew off the guns and sends the horses running.
I just got back from an eight hour road trip and this makes me so happy š
JON, PLS PUT TROOPS IN THE PORT OF AMSTERDAM!!!!!!!!!!
>tfw a british person says afghanistan is the prize they've had their eye on š„²
At the risk of being a bit politicalā¦
Tell us how you bravely slew
Them poor Arabs two by two
Like the Zulus they had slings and bows and arrows
Tell us how you faced each one
With your 16 pounder gun
How you frightened them poor natives to the marrowsā¦.
Or, somewhat more charitablyā¦
Whatever happens, we have got
The Maxim gun, and they have not.
Fun fact: After Jon had his horses charge directly at prepared cannons, he would later go on to be instrumental in major historical events. He was the logistics manager for Napoleon during the invasion of Russia, and he planned the Somme offensive. He's a military genius, that man.
Why would you put a shipyard on any of the islands when multiple mainland holdings will get 2 ports fairly quickly?
The name of the captured ship could be a clue to it's origin… Love the series! Empire is a favourite of mine, despite being a hot mess…
36:30 "This is Alpha Team, looks like we have slowly approaching elephants."
I live for your Fallout and Total War gameplays!
Got this game (thanks again MATN!) and I'm having a lot of fun with a Dutch playthrough (I have a lot of Dutch family and got a little carried away learning about the Dutch Golden age at school). However I don't think I have the same grasp of the economics as Jon. My economy is pretty good (4-5K per turn) but it should be way better after my devastating campaign in the Americas (booting Spain and France out of basically everything bordering the sea). I also haven't worked out how to really maximize the trade system. That being said I am having loads of fun…just got to figure out how to get New York of Britain without going to war…hopefully they'll trade it for half the US š
Been enjoying this series a lot more than I thought I would
24:25 it looks like a missing LOD, it can probably be fixed by reinstalling or a simple mod
Skirmish mode is a thing…
American Indian on India Indian violence…
You don't see That on the History Channel. š
HOW CAN A MAN ADVANCE CAVALRY WITHOUT INFANTRY SUPPORT?!
—Rod Steiger 1970
Watching Native American axemen in a melee against Sikh warriors is not something I expected but Iām quite happy I got to see
Man napalms locals and their camels out on leisurely ride.
HEROIC VICTORY
Does Jon know how to use the walls for cover? I've never seen him do it yet!
I wonder how long it will take Jon to realize he forgot to bring his general along for the next battle?
At least TRY the surrender button on camera for us, alright?
Especially at antigua with the entire army (that remained) being outside the city
I hope Jon does a Barbarian playthrouh in Barbarian Invasion at some point, would love to see that.
To bad you can't play as the minor nations would have mad this game SO much better
Idea for CK3 play through:
Lithuania
Reasoning: During the Middle Ages, the Lithuanian peoples were isolated and did not interfere at all in the world stage. It would be enjoyable to watch you change that.
What happend to that large Marthan force that sneaked past your blockade? I would expected to see it arrive somewhere by now
Clamour for reform: The frogurt is also cursed.
Jon gave us commentary, managed a gun cav skirmish and held a town all at once… Must've needed a lie down afterwards
There is a pause button in this game – just for those who don't know..
I played this game back in the day, I like your buffer, I have found that if you keep enough troops in you home country the AI will tend not to attack, might be cheaper then sending all that peace money. I usually played Poland, the Netherlands, seems kind of rough, as one ship can shut off most of you income, but you get a foothold in the Caribbean, and India. I played Sweden once, they can get the puckle gun. You don't seem to make the best of you formations in battle. The deeper your formation is the more venerable it is to artillery damage. I also sieged most places, and made them come out to break it, that way you are defending behind redoubts, saves on the casualties. If you play total war, Napoleon, the mechanics are an improvement over empire, but the scope is more limited. Thanks for showing us new ways.
Not gonna lie, Native American troops fighting for the Dutch in the Caribbean owned by the Indians with elephants is some real history channel at 3am vibes
Why doesn't Jon ever demand surrender?? He keeps saying he can't afford casualties but constantly fights battles he doesn't need to fight.
If youre going to keep using dragoons like that you might as well get some melee focussed cav, dragoons really arent for charging with
I feel like Empire would be by far the best total war if the AI weren't total shit. I think I can deal with all the weird bugs, but the crap AI makes the game unfun.
Your lines aren't wide enough Jon.
Easily the best Total War YouTube series I've seen. Keep it going!
So big buildings turns out big profits, but the people gets angry. Dragoons keep people very "happy," but costs a little money. For a small percentage of the new gains, it seems reasonable to just garrison every town with dragoons and pump money into the economy. And you have a lot of garriosn if invaders should come that can ride out or man the walls as needed.
Don't you simply get the heroic victory when the enemies general falls?
A Westphalian unification of Germany, a Westphalian Kaiser, is a hilarious alternate timeline. Hell, they have France. So they're a little more than Germany. They're the bloody Empire of the Franks! The heirs to Charlemagne!
