EMBER'S FIRST JUMP IN MONTHS!

It’s finally time! My ex-racehorse has his first jump since October 2024, and we had an amazing lesson with the wonderful @justinewardeventing. He was such a superstar—full of ‘enthusiasm’—but most importantly, he absolutely loved every minute of it! 🐴💨

We kept the jumps small for his first time back, focusing on getting him comfortable and building his confidence again. It was such a fun and productive session, and I’m already looking forward to our next lesson together.

Watch how we progress, and stay tuned for more updates as we work towards our eventing goals for 2025.

  3. What a good job. Ember is such a brilliant jumper but he is sure he knows it all. All you did to make it so much better was sitting up and folding just a bit. To Ember, even a little forward means run! Still, I can't believe how lovely his canter has become. No crazy galloping to the fences! Yes, he is excited but that's a good thing! Well done to you and Ember and of course Justine.

  4. Ember reminds me and looks so much like my heart horse Amber who passed away at age 30 about 5 year ago. She was a chestnut TB mare and training was not easiest but I put a lot of hard work into her buying her at 5yrs old having barely any training. She always had limitless amounts of energy I kept thinking it will get better she is just young but nope not the case she had just about the same amount of energy up into her 20s. Once all the pieces started to click it was really rewarding! Ember looks great his topline has improved so much as well as his self-carriage!

  5. Is it a criminal offence in England to learn horses flying changes or something? Every English horse YouTuber I follow never does a flying change when they land wrong, always going back to trot. Why? Here 4 year old jumping horses do a flying change easily. You just learn them naturally.

  6. Hello Lucy, you will never sit up properly until you Lengthen your stirrups!!! Watch how you are constantly tipping your body forward and your shoulders are rounded and forward, hands too low, as it you need them low to lean on his wither to try and maintain balance, but worst of all is you are not in the saddle, you are still sitting on the back of the saddle Which is so bad for Ember's back, all this is caused by your stirrups being too short!! This is also making your core weak, just Lengthen them at least two holes and try it for a while and you will ride much better and Ember will in turn go much better. I know that really your legs are too long for him but you still need to sit in the middle of the saddle, stirrups TOO short pushes the bum too far back and your knees up near his wither!!
I've said to Justine once to stop looking down as the head is the heaviest part of the body and also tips the body forward as well which puts weight on the horse's forehand and she knows all this, so Lengthen your stirrups, sit up put your shoulders back, look ahead and lift your hands up and slightly forward away from the withers, you have nothing to lose, everything to gain. As I said to Justine, I'm years older and she knows what I mean and that I'm giving very constructive advice. Take care

  7. I have a horse that is SO similar to Ember and he has challenged me so much and tested my patience to its absolute limits. I just wanted to say that I have followed your journey from day one and you have really inspired me to keep going with him. On the days when I've felt like giving up and that I'll never get this horse around an event I see what you have achieved with Ember and it reminds me that progress takes time and patience. Seeing what you’ve achieved with Ember gives me hope on the tough days when things feel impossible. I never comment on stuff like this but I just wanted to say from someone who absolutely understands the ups and downs and struggles of retraining a horse like this, thank you for sharing your journey—it's personally been a real inspiration and a reminder to keep going, even when it’s hard.

  8. Ember's changed so much since you first got him. So much more together, more developed muscling, less wide "flicking" of that front leg. He was always a beauty and still is a very handsome fellow, but he's got a lot more muscle in the hindquarter, looks shorter in the back because he's carrying himself better. Instead of the skinny racehorse neck, he now has the right muscling there, too.

  9. It's a joy to watch you riding Ember and also to watch a lesson taken by Justine. Gives me inspiration for with my ex racer girly. You seem to have a similar issue I have with my mare in that she rushes towards the jump. I get told off in lessons for rushing, but it's not ME rushing it's HER and I feel I cant control her!
