Elon Musk’s New Starship Moonbase Design Revealed…
After more than 50 years, humanity is on the brink of returning to the Moon. This time, with the innovative partnership of NASA and SpaceX, the mission extends beyond planting flags and leaving footprints. The goal is far more ambitious: to establish a permanent base on the lunar surface.
What makes this mission even more remarkable is that SpaceX intends to accomplish it using only its Starship vehicle. Not only will Starship transport astronauts to the Moon, but it will also play a central role in constructing and supporting the lunar base itself. How will SpaceX bring this bold vision to life?
Join me on today’s episode to find out! Only on Great SpaceX!
Elon Musk’s New Starship Moonbase Design Revealed…
In a presentation at Starbase, Texas, Elon Musk, the founder of SpaceX, outlined the company’s ultimate ambition: MoonBase Alpha. This lunar base will be built using the Starship spacecraft, specifically the Human Landing System (HLS) variant.
The Starship HLS is designed to ferry astronauts between lunar orbit and the Moon’s surface and back again. Developed as part of NASA’s Artemis program under the Human Landing System contract, Starship HLS plays a pivotal role in NASA’s mission to land a crew on the Moon. Like its standard counterpart, the Starship HLS is 50 to 60 meters tall with a 9-meter diameter and can transport more than 100 tons to the lunar surface.

Equipped with six Raptor engines, the HLS variant will utilize these powerful engines during launch, landing, and ascent phases. However, the HLS differs significantly from the standard Starship in several ways. Since it does not re-enter Earth’s atmosphere, the heat shield and flight control surfaces typical of Starship are removed. This modification reduces mass, decreasing the number of refueling tanker launches required once the spacecraft reaches orbit. Additionally, without the need for reentry systems, the methane and liquid oxygen tanks can be repurposed for other functions once the spacecraft is on the Moon.

  1. He forgot about how the 5 meter lunar regulith will not be able to keep astronauts there for long. The longest they can stay there with the 5 meter regolith is 2 weeks in the base, any more would cause harmful radiation damage to the astronauts. Plus solar panels would not be that much of a help, they would need a lot more power to do thing that you said in this video.

Anyone who says otherwise… Dont say it in a hateful way. Just explain why and I will respond soon, In a calm manner.

  2. Great, but curved buildings require special panels. Why not just stick with a square. Or simpler shape…

This is just an iteration of the problem that the Space Shuttle had with its tiles, each of which was unique and to be fabricated for its exact location, even if it was mirrored onto the other wing.

Edit: I have become an example of watch before you talk. I’m leaving my comment so I can eat my crow 😂

  3. Isn’t it just easier to construct a spacecraft that is already equipped for habitation? Repurposing sounds much more demanding and risky… just think how much work is with repurposing a house here on earth.

  4. Biggest Musk mistake is mit still is a pencil on legs
Once in space a rocket dose not need to be a thin
    long 1930s dream rocket?
getting off and on the surface of moon
as to be low to ground
    walk drive on off
landing flat for ease safety and no need for
jamming breaking wire lifts to 30-40 feet from msurface every time.
Safety is dependent on time ease usabilty.

2001 space oddesy and Space 1999
concept machines are the obvious logical
    direction
Space X laid flat would make good safe abbitats
Robot remote return lan ders samall useble
can be landed before any true landing takes place

  5. It would be better protected from the dangers of other space by being tunnelled Into the side of the crater as, a few meters will not protect from larger meteors or the Suns' discharging of solar flares.
