Elon Musk just revealed about the Ocean Starship launch platformโ€ฆ

As aerospace technology develops, rockets are not only manufactured more and more but also become more powerful. But many powerful rockets mean the problems will also increase, especially problems related to launch systems.
Starship is currently the most powerful rocket in the world. Elon Musk also sets the goal to launch many Starships in the future to serve the Mars colonization plan. Therefore, choosing a launch method that is safe, effective, and meets the future workload is necessary.
Among the many current methods, the ocean launch platform is considered quite suitable because it can meet the above requirements.
This system has been built by SpaceX in the past, but for many reasons, it has been canceled. Surprisingly, a few days ago, Elon Musk revealed interesting details about the ocean launch platform plan, a sign that this plan may be applied in the future.
So what exactly is Elon Muskโ€™s revelation? When will we see Starship launch from the ocean platform?
Letโ€™s find out on todayโ€™s episode of Great SpaceX.

  1. Compared to the oceans

    The mexican gulf is protected

    around by land

weatheris a danger to all lift offs

    Atlantic and pacific is unpredictable

working out avarage wind weather sea wave heights ect.

lift of over water AND CREATION OF ARTIFICIAL

RAIL ROAD ISLANDS OUT ABOVE WATER

    should be consided

Water also is a long used engerneering

    possibility for moving huge itemns

  2. do you know that twitter logged me out of 2 of my twitter accounts and preventing me to log back in. apparently they are getting orders from the US govt. so elon musk is NO DIFFERENT than all the others draconians. for that, tell musk lets race to mars in 8 years. becasue by then i will claim mars and will not allow any earth rockets approach its orbit without getting destroyed. yeah, im logging him out of mars.

  3. Launching from a platform would not significantly boil the water. It would flash convert a thin layer of water to steam. The big problem would be the hole the rocket would blow in the water surface and the way the sea water would rush back in as the rocket lifts off. The platform stability would be affected by the hole and the water rush as it fills back in.

  4. Great SpaceX is just a lot of bull shit. They keep on trying to persuade people that SpaceX has insurmountable problems and can never succeed The title they use is disgusting. They should change their title to why SpaceX is a failure".

  5. This seems like so much hype. A Starship can lift 160 tons to LEO and is designed to be reused 10 times a day landing on the same pad it took off from. Thus one pad can support 1,600 tons to LEO per day. That represent 584,000 tons to LEO per year for each launch pad. Two launch pads surpasses the 1 million ton requirement. Four launch pads allows each pad to operate at 50% capacity. Texas has the space.

Ok I know that each Starship to Mars will require refueling so the actual tons to LEO is much larger. We'll have to see how many tanker launches are really needed. However, given EM's engineering abilities and foresight, Starships to Mars may be using very efficient ion or atomic drives and thus less refueling will be needed.

  6. Iโ€™m all for colonizing Mars and other bodies in the solar system but I just donโ€™t see 1000โ€™s of launches per years for 50+ years.
How would you get that many starships to these ocean based locations?
How would you get that much fuel (liquid methane and liquid oxygen) to these ocean platforms?

Colonizing mars will be a slow yet steady rise in launches per each 2 year launch window.
And considering how much BS we are wading through just going to the moon itโ€™s gonna be decades until the first launch to mars.
Hopefully many launches ahead of the first humans to mars bringing equipment and supplies gets to mars ahead of them. Maybe robots to build printed buildings and put together pre fab living spaces.

  7. Faa geristiction ends 12 nautical miles from the baselines of the United States as determined in accordance with international law. He just need a pad off shore and faa can't tell him when he can and can't launch. There should be a inclosabal bay to build up rockets away from wind and storms and a water resivor under to insulate from Marian inviroment, but totally workable if they can run oil rig year round they can build a rocket bace.

  8. A perimeter net could be fine enough to keep out almost all sea creatures and held in place with a perimeter of electric boats with 360 jet thrust function, these boats/crafts could also emit certain sounds to deter approaching sea creatures. I guess if it was deeper water there would also need to be a net floor. Could work if the net was well inspected, maintained, replaced as and when needed

  9. A sea launch system is going to need a defense system as well to fight off the U.S. Coast Guard and whatever fleet of ships US Government Agencies decide to create to continue the harassment and prevention of any progress on escaping their control on this planet. Do not be surprised if the FAA is already working on armored โ€œlaunch inspection and controlโ€ vessels. Just like the Wall built to prevent escape from Communist Eastern Europe in the last century, there is a serious attempt going on this century to make sure no one develops a means of escape from this planet outside of the full control of Government.

  10. Shotwell promised that within the next 5 years SpaceX would be offering point-point sub-orbital flights around the globe to put long-haul aviation out of business. That means an offshore launch and landing platform out at sea by every destination you plan to fly to. New York, Tokyo, Sydney, Los Angeles, Seattle, Cairo, and so on. Dozens around the world each requiring multiple pads and the pipelines orstoarge to provide thousands of tons of liquid methane and oxygen every day. SpaceX had better get a move on to start designing, building, and testing these to meet that deadline.

  11. AVOIDING OFFICIAL DELAYS IN BUREAUCRACY!!!
If the sea based launch platform is placed outside U.S. territorial waters, then Spacex won't be delayed waiting for launch "permissions" from U.S. authorities, as is currently the present situation. So Musk's hint at doing this, could be a warning shot across the bows of these bureaucratic delays. External delays to Musk's launch schedules cost money, probably in the region of tens or even hundreds of thousands of US Dollars per day !!!!!

  12. For goodness sake. How many calories of heat will be pumpedinto the already warming ocean, how many millions of litres of LPG will be used up? This is a vanity project that will end in desolation on Mars. Ruin this planet for a few buildings on a world that will kill you? Enough, Elon.

  13. An interesting point, in order to build a city on Mars, he's going to have to build a similar city here on Earth, possibly in the ocean, with most of the same problems. I think he needs to go to the Moon first to work out some of the problems he won't face here, small steps. The idea of launching a thousand monster rockets a year will open a different can of air polluted worms, such as piercing the O-zone layer with many, very large, fire spitting spikes, producing mega many tons of LOX and the highly dangerous liquid methane, a known super greenhouse gas. Also, a gold rush to the Moon and Mars will, undoubtedly produce gold rush size fatalities too. And then there is the problem of who is going to pay for it all, is it going to bankrupt Earth to put a million people on Mars? I also wonder if the UN has laws and regulations concerning the actual ownership of Mars or even the Moon and how they would enforce them.
