I think we still need to terraform Mars. Seed the atmosphere with water from asteroids and plant vegetation that will increase the O2 levels, find some way to boost the ozone to protect us from the radiation.

We couldn't survive on Mars because we all have been engineered to survive with all the natural viruses on Earth over millions of years ! Our bodies aren't compatible to live on other planets that have an entirely different virus organisims ! It's like our body was designed to survive the common cold virus over millions of years of evolution but if someone from another planet came here and contracted the cold virus it would be fatal to them ! And it wouldn't take any time at all for all our air born viruses to attack that alien all at once !

before your allowed to go to mars, each of the million individuals has to clean one portion of a lake or river, plant each 2 million trees, recycle and clean each a ton of nuclear waste. plant a productive farm of at least 10 hectors. and pass a ethical test that demonstrates that you care equally for each person as having equal rights. then you get your visa.

Venus is so much better suited for habitation than Mars; all you need to do is make an acid-proof blimp and sit at the habitation zone in the atmosphere. Literally, the temperature and pressure is 95% Earth-like, if it wasn't for the acidity of the water-vapor there we could live without spacesuits.
