you also get a ruin boost when someone in your multiplayer group kills a shardbearer. So, join big multiplayer groups.
Don't do what I did and be lazy and fast travel back to the site of grace when farming. Fast traveling will get rid of the effect of the Golden fowl foot. But just running back to the grace and resting there will not get rid of the effect
