  1. I also went Wretch. I'm close to level 80 now, basically a Dex/Int enchanted knight. Looking back perhaps I could have started as a Prisoner and maybe had a little bit of an easier time, but I have no regrets! My next character I think will be more of a Faith build

  2. I went with the prisoner cause the starting spell is awesome. I also choose a hybrid build. Heavy Armor, Meteorite Katana and a staff. A little bit of a grind and it's going pretty smooth especially with a certain mimic.

  3. Magic is stronger late game whereas strength shines in the early. Resources are so spread out your first time running through having to allocate half of your total flask to mana just to get some good damage out really hurts it. All of this is alleviated with game knowledge where you can for the most part gun it straight to caelid or the mountain to supe yourself up with boss nuking abilities 35 minutes into a playthrough. Hero is a great starting class but faith/str weapons scale so poorly with faith, even with a B! Hopefully some of the major weapon scaling bugs get worked out with the first few patches!

  4. The early game in ER is quite easy and we have a lot of freedom to explore in a lot of different directions from the get-go, so for me, the starting stuff is not that relevant when it comes to choosing a class. What really matters and stays relevant for the entire game is the character stats. All classes have the same amount of stat points relative to their level, however some of them have better "dump stats" than others. For example, the Hero starts with 7 in Int, making it a great class for a non-sorcery build that will never upgrade Int, and much better than a Wretch which starts at 10 in every stats. I also think that the Prisoner is slightly better than the Astrologer for a sorcery build, because he has 6 in Faith where the Astrologer has 7.

  5. Even though they're just a template, the choice feels more important than it does in other souls games. I think it's because it takes longer before you're picking up different weapons, armor, and spells. You'll have to get used to your starting equipment for awhile, to the point that you should be investing in it. For example, my prisoner was using an Estoc and a tier 1 sorcery spell for probably the first 20-30 hours of gameplay, I really didn't switch to a different weapon until I picked up the moonveil katana, and by then I was well entrenched into the melee/magic/no shield playstyle that the prisoner starts off with. I did eventually pick up a shield to use against rats, dogs, gargoyles, and the like, but still never even touch it for bosses.

  6. I like the idea of starting as a fresh slate and would have picked the wretch, however, I instead went Vagabond and just stored all my starting gear. The reason for this is, if you look at Mugen Monkey’s class optimizer, the Vagabond is the best (or one of the best) starting classes for just about any build, as long as you keep Str and Dex at a minimum of 14/13 respectively. The high starting Vigor makes it highly adaptable for respec

  7. Hmm… Astrologer with the Golden Seed gift for all the 'pew pew' spells… Samurai with the Fanged Imp Ashes for the 'make them bleed' approach to combat… Not sure about the third choice. Having some sort of spell or incantation from the start is nice though.

  8. My favorite is the Confessor kind of has the same feel as the pyromancer from the Dark Souls games really easy to build into a Figher/magic user hybrid. That's what I'm going for this time as well hopefully with a dragon theme thrown if I can get the right abilities.

  9. I have never played a soulsborne game, and I chose the wretch. However, I think I will start over now that I have played for about 2 hours using the Wretch as tutorial of sorts. -I went in blind and had to sneak my wat around for a while. NO clue where any early gear/buffs were. But I like the idea of entering the world so week and unskilled.

  10. I'd say wretch is the worst, balanced stats don't matter when you know what you want to do with the character. Also you need to look good so being naked with a club is just the worst.
