Elden Ring Level 1 – Malenia, Blade of Miquella / Goddess of Rot

This is the boss that gave me the most trouble on my first playthrough, so logically I had to come back to her at level 1 and destroy her, right?

Despite being a somewhat broken fight, it is fun when it works properly. Unless FromSoftware nerfs her, Bloodhound’s Step is a must to be able to dodge the flurry combo.

I came up with this setup (powerstanced frost + blood curved swords) after talking to a friend and figuring out optimal equipment, and I believe this is the best way to fight her at the moment. Sword of Night and Flame is used to reset the frost status and during the AoE in phase 2 for a free opening.

Overall, pretty optimized fight. I could’ve been more aggressive but phase 2 still scares me since I can’t read her combos as well as I wanted to. I’m happy with the results, feels like a good kill considering the game has only been out for two weeks.

Not sure what I’ll do next with this game, probably Mohg or Placidusax.

  1. Glad to see our frost/bleed dual cs setup worked that well as promised, I'm destroying NG cycles with it on leveled atm. Now funny to think it could be just as viable in RL1 max NG… hehe
Pog and congrats on the kill !

  2. I never even thought to use Bloodhounds Step to dodge the flurry… I'm 100% gonna do that next time I attempt to beat Malenia. You learn something new everyday I suppose.

  3. Damn that's the first time I've seen a reliable way to dodge her bullshit combo. Beat her with my mimic because I was always getting oneshot by her waterfowl dance and obviously frustrated as fuck. But this bloodhound step strat might actually make the fight interesting and somewhat fair. Definitely gonna try that next time!

And also great job obviously, you're a beast 😀

  4. Very impressive! Saw a lot of challenge runners having mental breakdowns over this boss lol. While I agree that there are some questionable design decisions here, I respect when good players like you go through the trouble of finding counters for this kind of stuff. The discovery phase of the games is always fun because of that.

  5. First off, definitely interesting mechanically as to how your build works.

Bleed and frost is such a deadly combination. I've been wondering all the hype behind frost now that it's essentially buffed compared to previous entries.

Well done as this was extremely skilled and well played. Now, it's extremely tempting to try this build leveled to see where you can take it. I'll have to give that a shot when I get a chance
