  1. Look ive beaten every modern FromSoft game and felt very accomplished doing so, but god knows ive cheesed a dozen tough enemies using Scarlet Rot 💀. Beat the games any way you want, I’ll only flame you if you’re using magic against me in PvP.

  2. Defining DS or even Elden Ring solely through difficulty is a common misconception. It is more loved for its great design and brutal fairness. Maybe many view it that way but that is on them. Calling x the darksouls of y is a meme not a common phrase in gaming, I thought most ppl knew that.

  3. The nerves to complain about the UI of a game, while the shooter that you helped develop as a UI designer (BF2042) doesn't even have a Scoreboard, is just the most insane thing i have heard this year.

Must be quite nerve wrecking to realise you have to finish your game to get good scores.

  4. You took 7 hours to beat the TREE SENTINAL? AHAHAHAHA (I’m laughing at you) you pathetic fool, it took me one second after I encountered that enemy to easily dispatch him (this is due to my immense IQ and gaming skill), I can’t even believe I ever respected you.

  5. I love Atrioc's grindset. His rise in Age of Empires 4, Sekiro, Elden Ring and Hitman is really inspiring. He goes from struggling boomer to skilled gamer in the journeys.

  6. Why do you talk about a lot of these game design choices as marketing choices? Ultimately they are just trying to make a fun game. I do not think Miyazaki gives a fuck about what the consumers want rather is just designing it the game as he always has.

  7. Honestly it is not just the Brand. It is the freedom and unguided exploration, which is sadly just not given in that way in most modern games. Piranha Bytes also has a incredible solid fan base, even if they only get mediocre meta critic scores and is not that hard, but it gives you freedom and consequences pretty much unguided. Games from before 2010 are often better because they give you more freedom and expect more creativity from the player. I hope elden ring sets a trend towards free and demanding games, which expect a few brain sells and investment from the player.

  8. I think the most absurd thing about the elden ring Ubisoft memes is that fromsoft isn't exactly known for its top tier UI. They have ugly ass confusing menus, fromsoft are amazing at a lot of things but saying they set the industry standard for ui is crazy

  9. For me a bigger identity is that the games are rewarding. A game can be hard without feeling rewarding to beat. I personally dont care how many people kill a boss or dont. The game rewards me for learning movesets and exploring the world. Also the world feels real because the NPCs have their own motivations and dont just exist for you. You are just a part of the world and not the reason it is there in the first place.

  10. Man Elden Ring has a sense of exploration that is lost when you have a ton of map markers. When you climb to a highpoint you can use your telescope to see something in the distance and then you can use the barren map to see the terrain. This game is so immersive its insane, first game to pull me in like this ever. Skyrim fell into the same Icon and Quest list trap that other open world games follow… I haven't gotten overwhelmed in Elden Ring yet, at least from a UX pov.

  11. Creating serious, meaningfully interactive threats in their games so there's no enemy that can be taken carelessly is one of my favorite parts of Fromsoft games. Even the classic baby crabs and dogs or dragonflys in Elden Ring are meaningful because of the enemies around them as a weak unit that can still stagger you, even if theyre weak on their own.

  12. I am by no means a souls player, elden ring is my first souls like since the first levels of bloodborn (it beat me.) I did get a bit over leveled and used magic/summons on Godrick and beat him first try… I felt a little cheated by myself, I didn't get to learn his move set and have the boss struggle that these games are known for… I am excited for my next playthrough as a strength build or dex build!

  13. That said, I don't like how a lot of valid criticism is shrugged off by "git gud" or "it's just the way it's always been" for Fromsoft games. They do a lot right, but they aren't perfect.

  14. The UX is definitely not perfect. As a returning player to the series, it was weird the default control to pick something up was Y not A, it sucks having to use claw grip to run around the open world since run and roll are the same button, and that when you pick something up, you don't always know where it'll be in your inventory to find it. I searched for maybe a minute or so looking for what seemed like a trinket, usable item or key item, only to find out it was a seal (weapon). Which sucked bc I wasted my time, as someone who isnt using faith. The fact you have to hit the action button and rb/lb to two hand an item is pretty clunky, since the jump button used to do it when there wasnt one. THE FACT THE TUTORIAL IS EASILY MISSED BY RETURNING PLAYERS BC IT SEEMS LIKE A TRAP!
The game has issues, but ANY game has its own set of problems. The thing is, they arent ones that are game ruining for 90% of players bc they're reletively minor compared to game systems being shite, and can be somewhat rectified. If you don't know there's a tutorial and find out, you can go back and do it.

  15. Those developer critiques on Elden Ring just tells me that they literally didn't learn anything from the massive success of Skyrim and the power of open world. Too focused on making sure the pixels are the most beautiful or whatever i

  16. the elden ring map is actually amazing, as you play more the little obscure symbols become familiar and you notice patterns. you learn the game and learn what a mine looks like, what a church looks like, how to read the topography and figure out the path to get to interesting locations etc. It's an extremely intricate and well designed map 🙂

  17. I played the adventures of cookies and Cream. Actually one of my favorite games, and nobody has heard of it. I still have it to… Man was it hard for a kid with a PS2 at the time. And definetly a precurser to fromsoft making hard games. Honestly would reccommend a play it's rather fun.

    – It is soley a 2 player game, one person controlls Cookie the other Cream (only had my dad to play with and he never played video games)
    – It's a vertical split screen game where if you cross the vertical line in the middle to the other players side you die
    – any death from either player resets the level (If i remember correctly)
    – you both have to progress forward to the end of the level on a time limit (I think 1 min.. really short) solving puzzles that require both sides of the screen to interact with. And doging enemies
    – You have to collect stop watches along the way while doing puzzles to increase the time limit
    – at the very end of the overall area there is a really hard 2 player boss fight you have to work together on.

When I say this was hard for a kid I mean it. Not only did you have to have another freind wanting to play it at the time, but also someone compentent enough you can work together with.

There was one level in a music world where you had to listen to a piano being played and then each player had to jump on the 3 or 4 right notes in order or else it was randomized again. This was at the end of an already difficult level, on a time limit, and someone with 0 knowledge of piano keys and music notes trying to guess what is correct when you can't cross mid screen (piano was cut in half) is very very difficult.
