You want the book for the spear. If you want a better aoe, you're going to want to get fortisaxx's spear and the death lightning. Lanseax's glaive is OK, it hits a everything on the screen but the damage is meh. The frozen spear is a good aoe as well because it applies frost and frostbitten targets take more damage.

Sadly they aren’t great lightning bolt you can get at the beginning and is much more useful
