  1. 21:38 I think that this is an amazing example of what you're talking about Oz.

But unfortunately, from what I've learned over the years is that the modern-day soldier is trained to react on instinct so that they're not faced with the moral dilemma of killing someone else, they just act on instinct and it's not until after it's happened that it sinks in what they've done.
Simon here has an excellent video on the subject that's really worth a watch.

  2. What Oz said about eating monkeys gives you AIDS is partially true. Some chimpanzees carry HIV, but it does not hurt them. If a human ate an infected chimp, they could contract AIDS. This is actually how humans first got HIV.

  3. Hahahahaha Oz was talking about that farming spot in Elden Ring where you can stand up on the cliff and shoot the giant Dino Chicken to get it to run off the cliff for 13,000 runes and I'm sitting here listening to this as I'm standing on that cliff shooting at the giant Dino Chicken to earn 13,000 runes!

  4. I love that Elden Ring has no quest list. It’s so simple, uncluttered, and refreshing. If something cool happens, or you meet a character and learn new information, you have to remember it. It’s fine that other games have quest lists and cutscenes and cinematic storytelling. But the simplicity is an immersive, deep breath of fresh air.

  5. "You can't say the word to tell people what word is offensive to say" just reminds me of Monty python.
"YOU HAVE SAID THE WORD THAT MUST NOT BE SAID!"

    "What word is it?"

    "YOU SPOKE THE WORD AGAIN!!"

"How can I not say it if you won't tell me WHAT IT IS?!?!"

  6. The mirror test is the primary test used to determine self awareness. A human 2 year old will fail the test were as some bird species and many other mammals will pass it. Self awareness is a very sticky area to make value judgements like eating/ not eating meat. Also HIV evolved from SIV which occurred when people eat the uncooked meat of chimpanzees.

  7. HOW does having a nebulous-as-hell story enhance the game play?
The entire time i played 'ds' i thought 'boy, sure would be nice to understand why anything i do matters !'
There are several games, infamously exquisite in their code craft and character customization, that offer a ruthless learning curb and replayability and an actual plot, like 'sinking city' or 'vampire the masquerade: blood lines' so dont go an excuse fromsoftware for simple incompetence in basic story telling by saying 'a story would just get in the way, u guys!'
    Utter. Bullshit.
Even just a bare bones plot, 'go to x to do y so u can help z or get z or find z' is essential to the ttrpg tradition these games are poorly miming.

  8. I've been playing triangle strategy, a medieval fantasy game, and one of the focal points of the game is the conflict arising from the production and distribution of salt. It makes me wonder if the real medieval people fought for salt at some point.

  9. I will say that Elden ring lacks character motivation. and the game design leaves where to go next after the first boss to open-ended I literally haven't found the next place to go.

  10. Shad, if you could make a tiny character, the hitbox would have to be smaller to. That would change the game completely.
And the characters are almost completely covered by armour / clothes.

Edit; also the term Retard is used on aircraft. There is a voice that yells at you if you are going to hit something.
Quote from computer "retard…. PULL UP!"

  11. Man Horizon dev badmouthing Elden Ring's quest design is really rich. Zero Dawn was so goddamn boring I couldn't bring myself to play it for more than maybe about 10 hours, after which it started to feel like it was the most stereotypical and bland AAA open world game with outposts and all that other busywork. Why would I buy the sequel when the previous title somehow managed to make a game about post apocalyptic cavemen hunting robot dinosaurs boring?

I've had far more fun with Elden Ring's NPC questlines than any of the "go to this spot marked on the map and collect/kill or talk to X" quests HZD threw at me. Ranni's questline is the best of the bunch and rewards you with something all fans will recognize and even those who don't will almost certainly come to love.

  12. I'm not personally into Souls games, so Elden Ring has no allure for me. However, when I look at this situation from the outside, is the spartan nature of the game 'A design choice for an immersive and unique game experience' or was it just cutting corners to save time and money in development? I don't play the game but everything that I've seen about it says to me that it could go either way. The lack of customization options screams about a corner cutting model which you would think they would have buffed up what elements that the did include since their design choices cut out so many other areas that saved them time and money.

  13. Shad another example for the innocent casualties of war during a siege is the Siege of Alesia in the Gallic War. The Romans and Gauls did the same thing as the Romans were besieging the Gallic rebellion’s capital while being besieged themselves.
