Elden Ring Back-Compat – Xbox Series X Running One X Code Can't Hit 60FPS

Right now, the only way to lock at 60fps in Elden Ring on any platform is to run the PlayStation 4 Pro version of the game on PlayStation 5 – an option with a digital download rendition of the game. It IS possible to get Xbox One X code running on Series X, but you’ll need a physical disc and it WON’T hit 60fps. In fact, it runs slower than the native app! However, in the process, we did learn much more about how the From Software engine works…

  1. Very strange. Good to see you guys are able to get to the bottom of the reason. Either they don't know what they are doing or want it to run better on PlayStation…..

  2. I'm playing this game on a GTX 1060 3GB, and somehow I'm getting better performance than a PS5.
The game is phenomenal, but I don't know how they messed up the optimization this badly.

  3. Ignorant Sony fans screaming that the series x claims to be "The world's most powerful console" yet can't run Elden Ring at 60 fps

I swear, they try to get W's anywhere they can, even when what they're saying is straight bullshit… AHHH!!!!

  4. I'm not surprised with this result.
Xbox Series backward compatibility of Xbox One games uses a profile per console's gpu.

If your Xbox Series X runs an Xbox One X enhanced game, it will scale its gpu's CU used number at the ones used on One X.
If Elden Ring uses, let's say, 38 cu on One X, the Series X will uses 38 cu too. The only difference here would be how effective these cu are in comparison.
While it scales to gpu's profile, it uses what's available CPU side.

On Playstation 5, it's the other way around.
Its CPU has a profile for PS4 and PS4 pro in backward compatibility mode, but apparently uses what's available GPU side.

What is left to test is how would Xbox Series S handle Xbox One's version of the game.
Oh, yes, it doesn't have a bluray drive.

Then, what about downloading the game on an Xbox One, copying it on an external drive, and try it on Xbox Series S ?

  5. " just get a VRR TV! "

Screams butthurt xbots when yet another Ps5 game outperforms the Series X version.

Yeah. Go buy a whole new TV after buying an expensive new console and new games. No biggie. Atleast you can then have your TV do the work the console should be doing lol.

Gotta love that logic. And they scream about a game being 10$ more.

  6. I really like from software games but I can't accept fact that despite selling millions of units each of their games, they still haven't invested in good coders / programmers !? Especially since their games have always been very poor technically. More I believe that it is a lack of respect for all players, and even more so for loyal fans.

  7. Elden Ring tech team: "sir, the game cant run with 60fps on these settings, but it can do 60fps if we lower it to PS4 graphics. Should we include that option?"

    Miyazaki: "no"

Elden Ring tech team: "ah, alright sir. But how about we adjust the dynamic resolution scaler? You can still keep your pretty graphics, and we promise it will still be 1080p at least"

    Miyazaki: "no"

Elden Ring tech team: "i see…. ok sir. But since it constantly stays at 30 to 40fps on quality mode, can we put a 30fps cap so that its more stable?"

    Miyazaki: "no"

  8. Thanks for this Video. I really love the dedication you guys put into researching this stuff. 👍😁

But I'm wondering now: Can't you use the same 'trick' on the Series S to run the Xbox One S version in back compat? And if yes: What is the performance like in this case?

From what I understand the power differential between Series S to One S is bigger then from Series X to One X + the max resolution is probably much lower. 🤔

  9. They just need to ditch their engine. Its been quite clear for some time now that its holding their games back. Everyone one their souls games has their own techincal quirks. And there shouldnt be 60fps cap in 2022 but in elden rings case I guess it doesnt matter since its so hard to even get in run 60fps.

  10. I'm 80 hours in on PC and after the initial limgrave frame drops the game is running butter smooth. I don't get the whole PC is the worse port at all. i played the ps5 version and its CONSTANT frame drops are annoying and distracting

  11. Hahaha these guys think that the FPS being low is a problem. Well I've got news for you, you just have to git gud! 😂🤣😂🤣😂 This game is literally perfect if you're good at it!! Miyazaki is like a god tier developer!

  12. It's not clear to me from the video but if you ran the same test on a 1080p or 1440p monitor would it stop the game internally rendering at 4k resolution? Maybe I'm just dumb but with the video saying that the key difference is that ps5 renders at 1800p checkerboard would suggest that if both systems rendered below 1800p then they could be similar and both have a stable framerate.

  14. you don't need that at all if you have a vrr monitor/tv with LFC. Set your xbox to 120hz and activate vrr. great experience. I'm extremely picky about stuttering and bad frame pacing and I've had no issues so far.
