Death of the Author is copium for readers that enjoy an author's work but disagree with the symbolism or themes put into it. If not for their intentions the work would not exist to start. If they need to clarify or explain their intentions because the general audience misunderstood that is valid. Critics seek to punish authors for being too overt with their themes and simultaneously harass them for being too vague with their themes. You lot don't get to have it both ways.
The issue extends beyond themes so let's go over examples. If Rowling wants Dumbledore to be gay, fine. It's obviously in neither the books or films. Which is why her retcon here is transparent and ineffective. But if a new edition of the books were released by her adding scenes and dialogues that show Dumbledore is gay then he is.
Like the Han-shot-first debate. Lucas wanted the audience to see Han the way he did. Learning that audiences liked the outlaw gunslinger impression the scene gave them he changed it in a new edition of the film to reflect how he wanted us to see Han. (Not cold-blooded but unhesitating.) Creating an unending debate between fans.
I'm not favorable to either of these choices, but I recognize and respect the IPs' creators have the power to alter their universes. Rowling is obviously virtue signaling and should put her ovaries where her mouth is and release new editions with a gay Dumbledore.
Death of the Author is spite from critics and entitlement from fans over an IP. Ultimately you can extrapolate pretty much anything from anything. To claim your interpretation of a work is correct despite an author trying to fix what they consider a mistake in their work is childish and selfish. We shouldn't let people correct their mistakes to make their work closer to what they envision? This is why students cringe at their English teachers explaining what Shakespeare meant when he wrote "…" despite everyone knowing we don't know his intentions, we hardly speak the same language as the man did.
I'm not saying it can't be done. EFAP demonstrates on a weekly basis how little they care what a creator thinks of their hard work and product. I am saying it is bratty and egotistical to think you understand an IP better than its maker. That your experience with it must be canon and never altered or reframed by its creator. That's just silly.

4:10:00 IDK if they come back to this because I haven't finished, but this portion of conversation is a bit maddening. FRINGY IS CORRECT. You roll to see where the first guy is placed, but that doesn't affect the odds at all. It just determines the starting/control condition. It doesn't matter what his placement is, just that he has a placement. It's then 1-in-5 that the second guy chooses the same ship as the first guy. The ONLY way it multiplies is if it matters which ship the first guy is on. As in, there's a specific target ship – the captain's ship or the only ship with explosives or something and it's unclear which one it is, but they need to end up on it. As presented, it doesn't matter what ship they're on, just that they're on the same ship. So, it's 1-in-5.
Further, going by MauLer's added clarification that the first guy could be on either of the two ships (they don't need to be on the same ship, they just both need to be on an exploding ship), that just makes it even more likely that the second guy will choose the "correct" ship because there are now two "correct" ships. The odds are now 2-in-5. In other words, it went from 20% chance to 40%.
Basically, I would say that the odds aren't strong, but they're not terribly weak just based on these parameters until other factors are added in (such as timing).

Alright, since the conversation drove me crazy… The odds of them both choosing that exact boat is 1/25, but the odds of them being on the same boat (both in boat 1 or both in boat 3 concept) is only 1/5 because out of the 25 options they can be together on a boat 5 times…

It looks like one harness is getting used to load the horses, so say 5 mins a horse, 12 horses an hour, that's over 41 hours isn't it? And if 2 ships blew up isn't that 200 horses burnt to death then? And what tonnage is each ship carrying, with 166 horses, men, armour and provisions 😆 😄!
A few things I noticed on my drive while listening to this.
Firstly, how old is Isildur? Is this THE Isildur that is supposed to pick up the Ring?
If that is the case, where is his Father? And since Numenor is not destroyed, how by chance are Gondor and the Dunedain supposed to exist by this timeline?
Secondly, as Galadriel is the person with the most gung-ho attitude to defeat Sauron in this canon, how is it not contradictory that she is absent during the battle of the Last Alliance at the end of the second age?
Also, by rejiggering the show's timeline, it makes Minas Tirith a miracle of seismic proportions. They would have to build the city at breakneck speeds to compensate for the time disparity.
What if the point of the story is that Sauron wanted to abandon his evil ways and live like a man, and Galadriel pushed him on the evil path again? You guys think the show is that bad?

You seem to be underestimating the dark powers of that dumb kid trying to blow up the fleet. We´ve established in this universe that boats float because they look up and rocks drown because they are tempted by darkness, and yet this guy managed to corrupt a perfectly functional boat into "looking down", betraying its lineage and the intentions of it´s crafter much like Sauron did with the whole orcs vs elves thing.

I really don't get and am extremely disappointed with the complaints that I've seen about Andor. I was hopeful based on everyone involved being different than the other shit shows and the production not being dependent on The Volume and the hope that it's not key jangling. I do have issues with the show. It's not as good as I wanted it to be, but it's much better than anything else that's been on D+.
Just looking at the first three episodes (because that's what was initially released and what had definitely been out and complained about by this EFAP, even though there's two more out now), I don't even get the boring claim. It's pretty tightly paced. It's true that it's taking place over a relatively short amount of time over three hour long episodes. I guess people are just used to the 6-episode seasons that take place over months and each is only 20 minutes long. It's like they've gotten used to the McDonald's while complaining about it and now get an upset stomach over steak. They're hour-long episodes and there's constantly things happening, whether action or conversation or character introduction and development. I do not get the "boring" complaints.
I also don't get the complaints that it's not Star Wars enough. It seem very Star Wars to me. It's unmistakenly Star Wars. It just doesn't have a bunch of super-powered people running around. This is exactly the type of story that I want in Star Wars. It's clearly and unambiguously taking place in specifically the Star Wars world, but it doesn't (in the first three) connect to the galactic chess pieces that we're familiar with. THANKFULLY. People constantly complain that we need to get away from the Skywalkers and then say it's boring when we do. Besides, we know he hooks up with the Rebellion, so you're going to get your nostalgia fix. Just not as heavy front-loaded.

Yes. The most interesting character in Rogue One. I do think it's a bit odd that we're doing his prequel because he was only supposed to be 26 in Rogue One. Now, he's like 21 and Diego Luna is even older, so he's like twice as old as he's playing and looks it. Aside from that, It sounds like a potentially good direction to go in. I'd be fine if it were a completely new character. I do not get the complaints. There are complaints to be had, but not the ones that I'm hearing and seeing.
I've said it before but I'll say it again, gutting any fantasy creature like an Ork, with an inhuman level of pain tolerance, is basically asking to be strangled to death by the creature with it's own innards.
