After originally making a vlogging on the go back on the Labour Day weekend to reflect and digitally preserve Eau Claire Market as it’s slated for demolition in early 2024 for Green Line LRT station. I’ve decided to return on Christmas Eve Eve which happened to be the last Saturday before Christmas day in 2023 just to see what has changed and to “fight” with last minute shoppers. Spoiler there wasn’t much in crowds to avoid but at least the shopping centre was decorated for Christmas. Same with a light dusting of snow in Calgary overnight to provide a White Christmas.
Have no idea as of recording when the last day of operation will be but plan to make another vlogging on the go if I’m able to. Also made sure to capture some pictures on the west side of the building as I’ve realized that I didn’t when I was vlogging there earlier on Labour Day weekend.
Once again I’ll ask will you miss the Eau Claire Market in Calgary when it closes for good in early 2024? Why didn’t the idea inspired from Granville Island in Vancouver catch on in Calgary? Ultimately this will be a part of history on this patch of land beginning from the lumber and utility company back in the late 1800s to the bus barn dating back to the 1950s for Calgary Transit and an urban market that opened in 1993.

It’s so sad to see these staples go. I rented an apartment on the belt line for a few months last year, and I notice just how slow downtown was, and how busy 17th was. So much has changed since i was a kid. Kinda somber. Merry Christmas man
