For the holidays, I’ve decided to review an anime a lot of you have been requesting for awhile. Dungeon Meshi aka Delicious in Dungeon is all about a group of Dungeon Explorer’s learning how to cook monsters into tasty dishes. But is that it? Is that the main appeal of Dungeon Meshi? Or is there something more?

  1. I might eat a monster…I mean, my current D&D character has 8 int and would solve a problem with biting if he could.

Also, there's a chef feat that lets you make snacks for your party now. If you wanted, that'd be a good thing to grab for your cooking character.

  2. About Laios being autism-coded, I would definitely like to highlight "Intentionally or not."
There was an actual interview with an author who was asled about this, and she never meant it to be taken that way.

  3. Speaking as some on the spectrum, Laios helps with feeling "seen" in a sense.
There are other stories i could point at characters and say, "just like me fr fr," but DM/DinD is a perfect example of "this is what i have."
i don't like expressing it as fixation or interest, and i understand high-functioning is a defunct term. passion or hobby are closer to how i would explain, but it gets confusing how so many generally DON'T share this experience? emotion?? possibly hits harder cause i'm borderline ace (i really hope i'm using the right term) but… LOVE is too strong a word to use, but LIKE doesn't do justice.
i see thing. thing is cool. i learn more about thing. i am invested. i look up where i can view more variations of thing or other things that are similar. everyone looks at me weird and knows no thing.
bordering on cosmic horror, but realistically just a different "wavelength" i guess??? dramatic reenactment of an example.

thank you very much for this video!! happy holidays.

  4. On the subject of Laios…I honestly think it's more of a coping mechanism. His sister essentially sacrificed herself to save everyone else of their party, they all have died before, and their home life wasn't exactly sunshine and rainbows.

Granted I'm also not an expert and I'm going off the interviews with the creator, who claims this is more based off of old school rpgs in this but still.

  5. I could’ve sworn Alice 19th had an anime. I swear I thought it had one, guess I was wrong. Side note, if you like Delicious in Dungeon, Rising of the Shield Hero, and the like, check out Goblin Slayer. Thank me later.

  6. 8:40 You want to D&D go INSANE?? Let me introduce you to RIFTS. Were ANYTHING is possible. Thats right. Be a Knight Warrior wielding a Gatlin Gun or a Mage that can actually fire off Magic MISSLES. RIFTS were other realities can and will converge in your world.

OK back to the show. YES i can see this as a viable plot. Think about it. WHO KNOWS how deep this thing goes. Do you really want to waste all that progress just because you ran out of food? NO!! Keep exploring and eat along the way. I mean how do you think those monster are living way down there. Also MAN IS WEIRD when it comes to food. "hey look at that 4 legged, black and white spotted creature. Lets suck on it for milk and eat it. (A Cow)" or "Hey look at that red spider looking thing on the beach, lets eat it. (A Crab)" The French: "Hey look at that slimy looking thing that is destroying our plants. Let eat it. ( A Snail).

OK when it comes to monsters we now have Can I date it, Can I do it and now Can I eat it. Whats next??

  7. Someone tell Robin there a D&D monster hunter table top game where you gain powers by eating the monsters you hunt. You also fight using cooking equipment. There a picture of someone with cooking mits to punch.

  9. i was really excited for this series because i am that player at the D&D table asking "can i eat it?" when we kill a monster and its just sitting there dead. any character can be a chef if you flavor it enough

  10. First of all, love the fact that Robin is a Fools Gold fan.
Second, You kidding, of course I would eat a monster! It's like eating hunted meat, but on much grander scale.
Thirdly, there are PLEANTY of chef kinds of homebrew sub-classes you can find around on the internet(Would personally reomend Benjimin Huffman's Scholar and it's Chef sub-class, or Steve Conley knewly made Nibblemancy Wizard(both go in very diffrent directions))
Lastly, 8:30…Story time, Story time, Story time, Story time, Story time, Story time, Story time, Story time….please? Maybe just one?
EDIT: As someone one the spectrum…yeah, if you told me Laios was autistc I would actually belive you. The guy fits it pretty well with out going too overboard like what Hollywood tends to do while still making sense for the anime. It's well done 👍
