How were the giant stone heads of Rapa Nui–also known as Easter Island–carved and raised, and why? Since Europeans arrived on this remote Pacific island over 300 years ago, controversy has swirled around the iconic ancient statues and the history of the people who created them. Now, a new generation of researchers is overturning old theories, revealing the rich history, innovation, and resilience of the Rapanui people, and uncovering intriguing new evidence about where they–and their practice of monumental stone building–came from.

Thank you NOVA/PBS.
WHAT A SILLY THEORY WALKING A MOAI
Fascinating.
Interestingly, the relief carving of the hands on the Moai are similar to those found at Gobekli Tepe.
Baba Boouy was their glorious leader.
I wonder if anyone has correlated the locations. Of the shore Moai with any evidence of Tsunamis due to earthquakes on the South American coasts. And what were the effects on Rapanui Island due to such Tsunamis as in 1964 with the 9.1 Chilean earthquake. How far inland did the Tsunami breach. And did the Moai act as a breakwater during this event.
Just remember, anything you hear here is to be taken with a grain of salt. All these ideas are just guess work. Not one thing can be proven true or false. We do not even know when it happened.
I dislike NOVA videos rehashing disbunked theories of the past. Then… The Big Reveal! Roll credits!
34:36 like literally everyone everywhere throughout all human history. Like Hadrian's wall and countless castles haven't been repurposed across Europe? Westerners could learn something if they had empathy.
Imagine thinking you're better than a western researcher because you're 5% genetically related to subject matter
That was an interesting thought that the people made the statues walk. Where did the rope they used come from?
Somehow they did it.
“Thuh Island” is so cringey. Someone please inform the narrator that the word the is pronounced thee before a vowel. He must’ve missed that day of third grade.
Visited the Heyerdahl Museum in Oslo this summer. Interesting but frightening account of his exploration.
The arms on the side of the Easter island statues look exactly like the arms on the T Pillars of Gobekli Tepe. Considering these two cultures are about as far apart geographically and in time as two cultures could be, this is very interesting.
Yo I have part 107 and own Gibson's Aerial Studios hit me up if you want a better drone pilot. Your drone guy has noooooo experience!!!
Wasn't smart on conservation
I wish the island was covered in bunnies like I thought when I was a child
NOVA deserves way more than 794K subscribers. Come on fellows!
Thank you. ❤❤❤❤
I think the Moai were wind breaks. People live near drinkable water. The windbreaks would serve to protect were people settled. Rapa Nui is mad windy. I think they started building them slowly over time as the trees started dying out. Just a theory.
It’s astounding how mainstream is either purposefully ignoring the megalithic message on each Moai 🗿 but instead focusing solely on the genetics 🧬 of it descendants. 😊
