I am so not ready to do this unavailable, scalped, overpriced wait & search again for the 50 series. Settling for a "good enough" card never sounded so good.

I though I'd stick with my 3060 until the 60 series but they are planning on releasing gpu cards so fast that I think I'll skip to the 80s

While I agree that it seems like most companies sit in meetings contemplating which AI use cases are the most dystopian and horrifying ones possible and then developing those first, I also think that 9:03 will age like statements such as "I don't think this 'Internet' thingy has a future".

How is this an early launch of the RTX 50xx cards? The RTX 4090 was launched in October 2022, so a Q3/Q4 2024 launch would be in line with a 2 year cycle that NVIDIA has been using for the last few generations. Whether or not this will be "paper" launch is to be seen. Rumors and innuendo around this launch are to be taken with heaps of salt and only time will tell what will actually happen around this time. Any speculation at this time is seriously premature.

So the RTX 5090 is basically a paper launch, got it. I’m assuming that melting connectors will still be an issue in the near future as well.
But for the people who decide to take a risk and spend over $2,000 on it, your best bet is to camp out at Mirco Center one day before release and sing your camp fire songs.
I already sent all my money to a nigerian prince, so I am just wating for the release of my millions. No worries about scams.
Ok forget buying gold coins and start saving for these 5090 and 5080's!

Meaningful improvements on most programs that would enhanced productivity are completely stalled and don't require AI. We are talking about low hanging fruit like Microsoft finally implement a folder search function that is fast and works using traditional methods. This has somehow escaped ever being done in the last 15 years. This is low hanging fruit and just one of many many annoyances which come back to the same root issue: they cannot be as easily monetized as the current shiny thing.

Outlook search: broken and useless for years
Gmail: horrible interface, just so much terrible packed in there.
Gmail: no synonyms when writing an email. But soon they will help us with a bot that does the whole thing… great…
Visio: not useful vs some online competitors, has very high license cost and really a pain to use, no serious improvements are being made.
Its not just these tools, its everything we use. Year after year the same productivity holes exist and are rarely patched.
We had smart on everything, smart water for example now it's AI on everything, I saw an AI hoover, load of balls

It'd be great if a single person out there wasn't buying in on the "us vs them everyone is out to get you and everything is scary" mentality. Can we please just be positive for a split second? I'm excited and happy about what today's technology is now and will soon enable me, personally, on an individual level, to do. And no, I'm not reliant on Google or Facebook to allow me to use any of the technologies, nor am I unnecessarily afraid of alphabet, fb, or robots. Be positive. It's contagious. And there's enough negativity and fear-mongering nonsense in the world today. It's lazy and almost always based on inaccurate half-understandings or outright misunderstands.
Nvidia WANTS limited stock so that can justify gouging customers. I hate that I have to use their products, but unfortunately AMD and Intel can't compete with them for non-real time rendering.
Man, I just want to replace my gtx960 with something newer so I can fluidly run Borderlands 2 at max settings 😢
Garner already makes a variety of data destruction devices, I assume that device is just a dismantler for disposal processing. I assume they wouldn't have put the R&D and production effort in if there wasn't a specific need for this kind of disassembly. Still seems like a lot of effort when mass shredding is already the standard…

Paul, I think you're getting this all wrong. See, I would scrub my hard disks AFTER the drive was dismantled. Why? It's much easier to get that wire brush in all the nooks and crannies once the drive is taken apart. Can't do that while the drive is still in one piece and hiding inside the computer case.
Also, The same flaw exists for SSD's, since it doesn't take apart the circuit boards. But a 2011 Jetta TDI and a pair of jumper cables should take care of that pesky problem for you.

Nvidia doesn't care about gamers anymore, only about making a profit from AI companies purchasing their high end cards. This is why they still making 8gb and 12gb vram cards instead of 16gb minimum
How I would use a 5090: just like I use my 4090. That's how?
It's: max UV, DLSS Quality, RT Off, FPS limit to 115 FPS on 120Hz LG OLED TV. Power consumption of 4090: 120-250 watts average!
When is the only case I'd like to have a 5090? Only when we can buy 65 inches LG OLED TVs with 240Hz! 😂

It is well within reason that Sep will be the 50XX series launch date. We used to get GPUs every year.
*Paper launch, some 0.0000003% of required product was on-hand for literal years after launch.

Cool. Hopefully RTX 40-series will get cheaper and I can jump on one of those instead.
I do hope Nvidia gets it together though. I feel like they are almost trying to destroy their reputation with gamers (more than it is already) to where no one wants to buy them. Ridiculous prices and you know that they are absolutely in on the whole scalping thing. They are getting their part of that money for sure.
The AI push is simple. Advertisers have realised that google, Meta etc are basically just scamming them and the endless internet money train is slowing down. So all tech companies are scrambling for the the 'next big thing', real or not, to keep stock prices up. Crypto wasn't it, so AI it is. As usual, the promise of fantastical future growth is more valuable than real tangible current results. Capitalism baby!
