This is one chapter of our great DVD tilted “Diesel Power on the SP”. Everything in this video has vanished from the scene or is in a museum. See the way railroading was long ago when things were far more interesting, and a variety of equipment was in everyday use.

To quote Railfan & Railroad magazine, “….the quality and depth of the information in the narration is so great. A must for SP fans I would think, as well as students of motive power evolution, use and disposition.” To quote a review in Model Railroad News, “Smiley, as usual, pulls from unfathomable depths of footage to locate and select delightful pearls of 8 and 16mm footage.”

You had me at the first scene of the PA. I have all these gals in N scale on my layout.
Do you have more historical footage of the santa paula branchline?
A wonderful look at early EMD and ALCO Units from the Santa Fe and SP! From our full length DVD "Diesel Power on the SP" http://www.cspmovies.com
Thank you for providing all these videos for us. They are enjoyed and much appreciated.
In 1955, I took a train from LA to Sacramento in a sleeper with berths. But, I only remember standing on the rear car's exposed platform. Ugh 😝
Side mount dismount locomotives was cool… but i guess it wasn't the safest way to get on / off
I still feel these are some of the best looking diesels
🆒👊
Thanks 😊
Style mattered then, not just function. Paint schemes and absolutely no graffiti made railroading an art form. . Even the horns sounded better.
A very professional informational piece; I was impressed!
I know it was a failure but does any video of the Baldwin Centipede exist?
