That's good, because otherwise you run into the risk of catching Covid by some muggle (Hog Legacy) and die from it
I don't see bomb is going away in a Zelda game. Maybe it goes into inventory like rods, boomerang or bow so that we will be able to combine bombs with other items. Ultrahand makes magnesis irrelevant. I think ultrahand will be used as grappling hook as well. For the stasis I don't see them to removing since it was defining ability in the previous game. Most likely it evolved to recall but I believe we still be able to do stasis. I am guessing we will be able to combine recall and stasis. Ice pillar ability might go away. Mastercycle is Link's divine beast. We didn't see any divine beast so far. So probably that one disappeared.
Most likely there will be items which increase the durability of weapon or repair it when it is fused without changing the form or attributes. That will address the lots of people's complain about previous game.
I can't wait to see Devolver's schtick this year about the death of E3! 😂
While I think it's not worth resurrecting a corpse of what E3 used to be. I will miss the format compared to the newer ones. Since E3 was not solely the press conferences. It was the booths and game demos that showed the games playing. To a lesser extent but also sort of a time capsule it was the booth props and set dressing. Also the interviews.
I suppose one can hope something like the Summer Game Fest eventually improving into something we're eager to see coming. But I do feel spreading too much the game announcements is more exhausting even on people interested in most games.
But oh well, end of an era, maybe we'll get at some point some sort of VR version that's less expensive to make but can attempt recreating that kind of event.
As child, I always use to look forward to E3 coverage on G4. I never understood the E3 hate from the industry, hope it comes back someday.
E3 has been irrelevant for like 4 years now… going on 5.
Love you guys <3
I like how Xbox would stand up for “gamers” and give people a show at E3 anyway. Now they are like who gives a damn? 🤷🏻♂️
CORRECTION: 0:00 – Better Help is a predatory service that sells private information despite being sold as confidential therapy. No one should actually use this service, or be paid to promote it.
Last good e3 was,2016
Crazy to think, E3 was the only place, besides game magazines to get gaming news.
It is so, so off base to say third-parties should all do their own event. Capcom is an actual S-Tier producer right now and can't even fill a 1 hour video with content. Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony should all have their own events and either feature chosen third parties (because frankly I'm not sure they are all prepared to fill their own events with worthwhile stuff) or SGF features the third parties.
What kind of laptop does blood use with no label on the top?
Correction: 35:20– Damiani says there's no "movie day" where all the studios come out and announce stuff but that does in fact happen at Cinemacon every year in Las Vegas.
It’s so heartbreaking to see Huber in pain! Hope you feel better soon! ❤❤❤
"Dragged before credits role" I do not approve of the s metric. Tetris, Rogue legacy, Action half-life.
This is just a result of the internet right? The pandemic sped it up but it’s primarily down to the internet. We all hear news from Twitter, YouTube etc etc and it’s easy and quick to spread this news, it saves money for the gaming companies. Sadly there is no need for a big event to break news.
Blood "It's like they're launching a sequel but they're taking away the first game" – Somehow not talking about Ark is hilarious.
Huber is such a gem, I want to protect him at all cost
MS getting their shit shoved in yet again
I wouldn't say that PAX East is as big as you guys are making it out to be, at least not anymore. I love going every year because it's relatively low-key compared to something like past E3s. This year's highlights were mostly just third parties (THQ / Plaion / Focus), big indie publishers like Devolver and Yacht Club, and the hidden indie gems that you find by walking around the show floor. The big boys definitely used to show up, though. Nintendo and Square were "there" this year, but neither had any upcoming games playable! TotK just had a photo op in the lobby, and FFXVI only did a panel on the main stage. Compare that to 2020, when Animal Crossing and FFVII Remake were both playable on the show floor. I think the pandemic really messed with everyone's plans- Sony infamously pulled out of the 2020 show right before lockdown
KEigh3ley to the rescue.
Listening to this made me feel like its a good thing E3 is ending. Damiani talking about how he's sad that he wont get to play media exclusive demos anymore and Bloodworth talking about how he wont see all his games media friends anymore just makes it sound like all it was ever doing was afirming and insulating their games media bubble, rather than helping gamers see what new games are one the way.
destroy the keighleys next, force a steam next fest onto consoles with playable demos for the entire playerbase not just dorks lining up for hours in LA
Stop taking betterhelp scamers as sponsor, you can't have forgotten what they did not a couple years ago.
Correction/Clarification 1:29:00 : in the UK, EE was what took over from t-mobile a few years ago and we get adverts featuring Kevin Bacon
What really made it feel like E3, to me, is when you guys would dress up in suits for the reactions.
This whole podcast was a masterclass in illustrationg how games journalists have no idea what people actually care about.
The Lollipop Chainsaw slander was too much. I'm unsubscribing
jk
Companies all have their own youtube channels now, they don't need E3. Once Nintendo started doing it's own directs, apart from E3. It was all spiraling downhill from there, for E3. I don't feel sorry for all the game media who don't get thier special early access behind the scenes look at games any more. Cry me a river. I'm glad we just get media direct from companies now. No need to give the middle man special treatment.
Honestly, e3 being cancel is heartbreaking even though i have never been to one. I've always looked forward to e3 every yr. Gonna miss those booth babes and, of course, the games. A friend of mine went to one back in'98, and he bought a Zelda hat. It was nice.
I loved that BAFTAs were talked about in this episode!
Slight correction 01:23:10 Isla said they might be sunsetting the Java version of Minecraft. Java edition is the most popular version for mods and still used by millions of players. Xbox has never made any plans to sunset Java edition. Isla probably got an email for the recent update or perhaps the account migration they have been doing.
Huber needs to catch a BREAK!
I disagree with Damiani I think summer games fest can very easily work it’s way up to being E3 levels. Look what keighley has done with the game awards in the last decade. Now that he’s struck the killing blow, he has all the cards to go all out in the years to come
Did they skip on covering FFXVI's pax east panel?
E3 should bridge the gap between game awards in December and summer games fest in June or whatever…so they should do e3 around march-ish…
Poor Huber. E3 is full of so much hype, just like him. Plus, he has a special connection with it (E3 Of Dreams!).
I'm similar. I loved the week of E3. The hype. The bloated news cycle. The embarrassing showcases, The shadow drops. It was a week dedicated to my favourite indoor hobby.
1:31:00 Yea those disjointed BAFTA awards were the same problem I had with the EZA GOTYs back in 2020 when HL Alyx lost its own category yet won overall GOTY. At least these days there aren't EZA genre awards to risk these contradictions, but it's important to note that award shows need to be consistent across categories unless openly stated otherwise (i.e. the EE public voting). Makes everyone look more unified as an entity, and not like several isolated opinions cobbled into 1 program.
As Isla had to look up, the BAFTAs funnel their voted nominees into second stage where the winners are selected by a different jury in each category. So the skate-loving judges of the 'British Game' award were either different people or just a fraction of the judges that the GOTY category had…where folks ended up choosing Vampires. The disjointed-ness of these 2 overlapping awards cheapens whatever critical "discussions" we perceive the jury to have had before they finalized.
i know the general sentiment is that E3 hasn't been great for years even pre-covid but….shoutouts to Keanu Reeves AND the FF7R presentation during E3 2019. That was the last time I felt the old genuine stage hype that the early/mid 2000s expos made famous. Alas, Nintendo has proven they were ahead of the curve with their Nintendo Directs. Probably the only time they were ahead of others when it came to 'the internet'
Thank you✌️
CORRECTION ~35:26. There are definitely other industries that have events where all the big companies come together and share their big announcements. For example, every January Detroit hosts the North American International Auto show where car companies from all over the world show off their current, upcoming, and even early concept cars. I know it's not entertainment, but still.
I too discovered EZA through E3. Feels like it was just yesterday when those trailers for RE2 Remake & God of War (2018) dropped. I was looking forward to heading down to LA to experience E3. I’m merely a drive down the 5 away, since I live in the Bay Area. W/ the Big 3, Microsoft, Sony, n Nintendo nw out doing there own thing, who knows. Me personally, I hope it’s not the end. 💯💯
Blood and I had the same idea about telling people of a particular game. Put a flyer of its picture on a telephone pole saying have you seen this.
Last Stand said they’d be open to collaborating with you. You should at least have Dustin on for something.
Keighley's Trash Fest doesn't fill any niche, what it does is show a bunch of mediocre trailers and at best one big announcement. What fills the "big reveals are happening here" niche are the directs, states of play, etc.
I don't think there's much reason anymore to have everything under one tent, but it's surprising that companies don't do more of a "live" presentation ala Apple/Nvidia/Samsung. It's still heavily scripted, but has an audience, stage, lights and theatrics behind it all.
Does anyone know why Huber has such a burning, passionate hatred towards Lollipop Chainsaw? The game feels like a prime example of swimming in sevens to deserve such derision.
Correction 3:35
If we’re gonna be sticklers 😀 let’s go all the way: DVD used to be an initialism (for Digital Versatile Disc or Digital Video Disc), but it changed to just being the three letters with no further meaning behind it 1999, decided by the DVD Forum (Intel, Panasonic and others).
I think if there is no more e3 the game developers should at least provide game demos to journalists. At the very least have the news all on one website and have a hierarchy system where some have more clearance than others to get more exclusive information and demo keys. To help the journalists income wise have people in touch with sponsors for video sponsorships to bring in income for those companies.
