  1. Owl Bear Spoiler below:

Here is my understand of what happened in your game.
    (What you saw)
    1) You left Mom and baby alive.
    2) Goblins came in, killed mom, took baby.
(Here is what you did not see)
    3) Baby replaced the chicken in the chicken run event at the goblin camp.
    4) You have to talk to the chicken run goblin to get the cub.
    (You picked back up here)
    5) You killed everybody in that area when you left on your way out. This included the chicken run goblin.
    (what you did not see)
    6) cub ran off.

  2. You can bonus action healing word on Shadowheart, then attack the mud flapper. At this point i would go all out. Maybe even see if you can moonbeam that treeman. Maybe barrow a fire arrow to shhot at him. Anything to get him dead or on fire again.

  3. FWIW, Shadowheart knows Sacred Flame, a cantrip that forces a Dex save rather than requires an attack roll. Thus, being coated in mud or restrained or otherwise under a condition that imposes disadvantage on attack rolls has no effect on Sacred Flame. It's not great on foes with good Dex saves, but it's worth checking the success chance when your attacks otherwise suck.

And as a cantrip, you can cast it all day long, of course.
