'Dune: Part Two' Director Denis Villeneuve Breaks Down the Sandworm Scene | Vanity Fair

‘Dune: Part Two’ director Denis Villeneuve breaks down the glorious scene where Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) uses the thumper for the first time to draw a sandworm out from beneath the surface as Chani (Zendaya), Stilgar (Javier Bardem) and the Fremen look on. Denis explains how he built the “most important” scene of the film over the course of 44 days, with the use of various sunlight levels and blending of visual effects to make it feel edgy and real.

  1. Too much hype
Nice production but lacks the mystical feeling of Dune 84… Nothing comes close to the scene that ends in "Father!! The sleeper has awakened!!!

  2. As much as I applaud and respect Villeneuve's commitment to film making, I do think that some things could have been done cheaper.

I am appreciative to his attention to he actors performances.

I do wonder if Denis Villeneuve can think about investing in some writers add more to his narrative.

Like the cost of the dune collapsing scene being minimized, can we consider how the story could be maximized?

I understand that this may undermine a director's attempt at capturing something according to their vision, but I think Villeneuve needs help with his story telling.

PEOPLE ARE SAYING DUNE PART 2 WAS TOO SHORT WHEN IT WAS OVER TWO HOURS LONG.

What does that say about the director's story telling?

Explaining his intent and attention to detail is entertaining and endearing.

I STILL WANT A BETTER STORY. NOT NYQUIL.

  3. With Dune going mainstream, I wish Blade Runner 2049 had been made AFTER Dune and not before. Then maybe it wouldn't have bombed (riding on the success of Dune), and we would get a sequel. Now, the franchise is dead because Denis was still too unknown in 2017 and his style of movies too unappreciated at the time

  4. The sound design is the first thing that struck me watching this movie in theatres. Every moment feels like you're witnessing something special because of the sound design and the sound track.

  5. for such an intricate scene, I felt that the only thing that could have been better is the skin of the sandworm. idk if anyone knows what I mean, but besides that Villeneuve continues to knock it out of the park and is truly a genius
