  1. That whole “icing the kicker” thing is all about timing. Too often the coach calls the timeout to close to the ball being hiked and these Professional kickers basically get a practice swing & make any adjustments they need

  2. I never understood why teams don’t just take a 5 yard penalty on a delay of game instead of burning a timeout late in the game. Not having that extra timeout seems to always come back to bite someone in the a**

  3. Burning time outs to avoid Delay of Game penalties often drives me nuts. Surrendering a time out to avoid a 5 yard loss (without a loss of down) is a disproportionate cost in today's pass happy game. If there's more than 3 minutes remaining in either half? Take the DOG. If you're not inside your own 25 or so, or if that 5 yards takes you outside of field goal range? Take the DOG. If you're on anything but fourth down, or a gimme 3rd-and-inches situation? Take the DOG. If you have any faith in your team's ability to advance the ball, you'd rather deal with needing to gain 5 more yards during a single series of downs than to go into a two-minute drill situation needing a time out you don't have.

  4. 4:00. "Is there a direct correlation?" Yes! There absolutely is. You literally just told us what the correlation was and the data are that support it. Is there a direct cause and effect relationship? Probably not, as there are many other factors that contribute to a team making the playoffs or not. Words matter and the word "correlation" doesn't mean what you think it means. Also, "data are" and not "data is." Awesome video, though! I'm obviously just nitpicking … because, well, I'm a jerk and this is the internet. 😉

  5. About going for it: I would personally go for it when the team is in long FG range (53 or more yards) with fourth and short, especially if my Kicker was unreliable.

  6. A side note to your comment about the 6 teams with the most KO returns missing the playoffs while the 6 teams with the fewest making the playoffs. It stands to reason that if you're getting more KO returns that means your defense is allowing more points. The inverse is true too. Fewer returns means fewer points allowed.

  7. I hate when teams get in the red zone and throw passes into the end zone. If you can get a first down inside the 5 or 10, get the first down. I also hate when they are inside the 5 and kick a field goal on 4th down.

  8. most irritating thing teams do is run the ball straight up the middle on 3rd/4th and short. sometimes ya gotta do a little dance to make a few yards so get creative. looking at you, Green Bay and Chicago, especially
