Drone Light Show In Albuquerque International Hot Air Balloon Festival | Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta

As the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta kicked off its 51st event on Saturday, a fleet of 500 drones took to the sky before 6 a.m. to put on a light show for an early morning audience. This is the second year that the balloon fiesta has partnered with tech company Verge Aero to produce the 10-minute long spectacle, which appears in the night sky for nine shows throughout this year’s fiesta.

The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta is a yearly hot air balloon festival that takes place in Albuquerque, New Mexico, during early October. The Balloon Fiesta is a nine-day event occurring in the first full week of October, and has over 500 hot air balloons each year far from its beginnings of merely 13 balloons in 1972. The event is the largest balloon festival in the world, followed by the Grand Est Mondial Air in France, and the León International Balloon Festival in Mexico.

Each year, the popular event draws over 500 balloons, 600 pilots from around the world, and hundreds of thousands of visitors.

While many of the special shapes will be flying throughout the event, Balloon Fiesta has several events featuring special shape balloons. The Special Shape Rodeo™ (morning) and Glowdeo™ (evening) events will take place Thursday, and Friday
