Dragon's Dogma 2 – S TIER Thief Build Guide! (BEST Weapons, Skills, Augments, Rings & Pawns)

Today we are breaking down one of the best Thief builds in Dragons Dogma 2, which includes the best weapons, gear, augments and skills to use. This vocation excels in speed, damage, range and offers incredibly powerful skills for your character. You’ll notice just how powerful this vocation is as you level up and unlock skills like Formless feint, which makes you invincible and immune to damage and Blades of the Pyre which synergizes perfectly with formless feint to turn you into an unkillable ticking time bomb! Some skills perform better against mobs during exploration and others, like skull splitter for example, are very effective against large enemies. Its important to know which skills excel the most and how to best utilize them during each combat scenario. There’s a lot of important aspects to consider when building your thief including height, weight, equipment load and the gear you’re wearing. This guide is designed to help you create the best possible thief in Dragons Dogma 2 and provides a blueprint to make your thief increasingly more powerful as you level up other vocations.

Next, lets talk about the best skills to use for the thief starting with Cutting Wind. Known as biting wind before upgrading its actually the very first skill you unlock as a thief. The second skill on this build, probably the most powerful thief skill in the game right now, formless feint. This skill accelerates your characters reactions to an ungodly degree, enabling you to evade all manner of attacks from hostile targets. Blades of the Pyre is the third skill on this build and its incredibly powerful while formless faint is active. This skill brings your dagger together to ignite, coating them in a blazing inferno so potent that the user cannot escape being burned. For the last skill Im using Skull Splitter which is actually one of the most effective skills to use against larger enemies. Skull Splitter is an advanced form of helm splitter that employs a faster spin to deliver a greater number of slashes providing more DPS in the process.

For augments, all you really need is the thief augments to be efficient and successful during combat but you can make the build slightly more powerful by utilizing some other augments from different vocations. Subtlety descreases the likelihood of being targeted by foes, gratification restores health when you deliver a killing blow, poise reduces stamina consumed when struggling in a foes grip, vigor reduces stamina when clinging onto enemies and verve augments your strength. Some other augments I recommend using include endurance from the archer vocation which increases your maximum stamina, avidity which enables you to clamber up cliffs and scale foes more quickly. Exaltation from the mage vocation which augments your stamina recovery speed, Athleticism from the mystic spear hand vocation which reduces stamina cost while dashing and thew from the fighter vocation which enables you to carry additional weight helping you control your equipment load a lot easier.

After I completed the game and started new game plus I was able to purchase the legendary heavens key daggers from the weapons vendor in any city. These daggers and many more endgame weapons are available for purchase after completing the game and are currently the strongest weapons in Dragons Dogma 2. The heavens key daggers come equipped with high base damage, magick damage, slash strength, and 45% holy damage affliction on enemies.

The gear Im currently wearing includes the confidants hood, vanquishers armor, mercenary hosen and the abyssinal neck wrap.

For the rings I have the ring of momentum which moderately boosts maximum stamina and the ring of skullduggery which increases damage dealt when attacking foes form behind. Super useful during boss fights and mobs and with cutting wind you’ll find it incredibly easy to get behind enemies quickly.

  1. Is the dagger Heaven's Key Vermundian Wyrmfire upgraded better than Dragon's Vein Battahli Wyrmfire in this build (unlock in unmoored world)?
Dragon's Vein has better physical damage, but lacks magickal damage and has lower knockdown stats

  2. Food for thought. I really like smoke shroud over like cutting wind. I haven't tested it fully yet but it feels like smoke drops enemies out of battle stance allowing you to get lots of crits with the fierce attack. Straight assassin like backstabs instant death. Parries well with the archer augment too

  3. Armor weight doesn't matter as much when you can either elvish enhance to lower weight, or dragonforge to further reduce their weight by half. But I guess if you're using feint you aren't getting hit much, so enjoy the FashionDogma 💅

I think you missed armor and weapons available in the unmoored that you can't get at vendors – I think people are still discovering new loot there.

  4. I forget exactly where you get it but theres a ring that exceptionally boosts strength the lighter your equipment load it, i found it to be almost an auto include ring to whatever thief build you might be using.

  5. You can dodge backwards or sideways to avoid flames of pyre damage. I like running powder charge, flames of pyre, concussive step, skull splitter,. Constantly blowing things up. The formless feint seems too op.

  7. I'd rather go for mericless kill, draw and quarter, helm splitter and formless feint just for style points. Aguments are easy deal thiefs Vigor and verve then go archer for endurance, lethality and Avidity for the last one Mage Exaltation. Gear just do whatever you want it's fashion show anyways just upgrade it all the way to the max personally ill go for dwarven that extra knockdown res/power is no brainer and extra weight means nothing when you'll get to dragonforge it cutting 50% of weight anyways. Rings stays pretty much the same you proposed but currently im runing ring of triumph instead of Momentum, also the ring of quickening is viable option for faster stamina recovery.

  8. I would always take implicate over blades.

The beauty of this skill is less its ability to yank airborne enemies (which is useful) but more to give your thief an answer to enemies which would usually deflect your attacks.

Yank the rockbiters and open them up to a heavy, critical attack to one shot them.

Of course it works on all enemies, including shielded, and is great for pulling archers and enemies off of ledges and away from wonky terrain.

Plus you can topple staggered bosses.

I slept on this skill for ages but it's fantastic.

  10. The problem I have with the thief is that the opponents always discover me. I always tell my minions to stand still and then I use the cloak to blend in with the environment. I always get discovered after 1-2 opponents, does anyone have any tips?
