As someone who used to play this game before my x box 360 got the red ring of death I never once got tired or bored of the game play nor thought I repetitive I hate when people say it's just rock paper scissors because it's not. The only problem I have with this game is I can't mash quick enough even on the easiest difficulty meaning you get stuck on baby in hero mode or vegeta in story mode if this was removed and replaced with any of the other qte's I genuinely think this could be one of my top 10 games ever. To address this rock paper scissors it isn't the triple strike/x/square button reduces the options the opponents can do in response to supers and makes it harder to mash evade out of a combo where as the stronger single strike/y/triangle button builds ki so you pick rock or paper you have to balance what is best at the time which requires strategy and mind games rather than he went for scissors last time so he'll do something different so paper shouldn't go wrong. They are not the same and those that say it is haven't played enough or read the tutorial. The combat works and it works well and if you don't like it it's not because it's bad it's because it's not for you. The animations are fantastic now and were exceptional for it's time the character combination was fantastic (once you unlocked more than 3 hairstyles but it was the first to allow any so progress) overall their are no major flaws once you see the combat this way besides the overuse of mashing so for this game to be considered one of the worst dragonaball games is just in my opinion people jumping on the bandwagon of "I didn't play this and people said it was bad so game must be bad" TLDR the game isn't bad you just haven't understood it enough plus if I can say this much about how the game can be played without talking about every small detail (team battle excluded world tournament excluded evading not mentioned) the game is not rock paper scissors.

They immediately start getting mad at the luck based mini games and I'm sitting there confused like…that looks like a cinematic rpg with rng to me. You're the first guy who properly explained why this game is bad, and convinced me that it is. I remember playing this game. I remember being excited for this game. I was amazed with the graphics, I was surprised to hear I get to create a character for the story.
But then the gameplay happen. I was confused as to how this is supposed to be Ultimate Tenkaichi. How its supposed to be a continuation of the Budokai Tenkaichi series in general.
I get what they thought of doing, but the execution is just not good. Whay went from a somewhat strick way of playing to having free movement on the battle field was awesome. But this, it was like going back to that strickness, but worse. Again the graphics are nice and welcoming. But the gameplay isn't.
Instead of being like budokai 3 or well infinite world or like budokai tenkaichi 3 or even Burst Limit. Its more like Infinite World but with two modes that has a rock, paper, sissors mechanics. Now Budokai 3 did have that as well, but that was more towards getting hit with a rush attack where you guessed which button it may be so you can continue the attack or stop it.
For this its like with almost everything. You shoot ki to go into a rock, paper, sissor fight. You go hand to hand into a rock, paper, scissor fight. The only time its not rock, paper, sissors is when a super attack is launched. Where you have 4 options. Do nothing, block, dodge, or counter. Should it be done by a meter to determine which one you want? No, but it was.
Imo the game would have been far better off without that mechanic. But it works for a mobile game though.
Also cant say much about the story. Couldn't beat Baby as a golden ape form, because the QTE was bs.
I love that game so bad I literally made Goku black on their and everything wish this was backwards compatible Xbox one and series x man😢 this needs to come back this deserve a place in backwards compatible for both old new and new gen imagine the money bandi would have if they remastered this masterpiece with XenoVerse 2 style combat and dlcs story arc and characters or addleast a sequel
this game is honestly hot trash finished the entire game including getting almost all the trophies and if someone enjoys this game just to be different. Sorry but your taste in gaming is terrible.
