Dozens killed in China after car ploughs into crowd | BBC News

At least 35 people have been killed and 43 more injured after a car ploughed into a crowd of people at a stadium in Zhuhai, China on Monday, according to authorities.

A 62-year-old male driver, surnamed Fan, is alleged to have driven an SUV through a barrier and into Zhuhai Sports Centre in what local police described as a “serious and vicious attack”.

Chinese media reported that many elderly people, as well as teenagers and children, were among the injured.

Fan was arrested while trying to flee, police said, and is currently in a coma as a result of self-inflicted wounds.

The BBC’s China correspondent Stephen McDonnell reports from the scene, where locals appeared to attempt to keep journalists away.

  1. LOL, the reporter said that the man was a "secret Chinese policeman" and he threatened that "secret Chinese policeman" to be arrested or reported to the police. What a classic anti-China narrative from BBC reporters. HAHAHAHA

  2. Hey BBC why dont you and english subtites? Could it be because doing so would dismantled your bullshitted lies about what you are reporting on the ground… Stop your shitty lies about china and show some respect to the grieving locals… Your reports of China bad needs to end, your reports of sensationalised fabricated lies on China needs to end…

  3. If USA has mass shootings, China has car-ramming. CCP will surely censor/sanitize this incident to maintain that things are well in China. Driver lost it due to divorce? The bleak economy is triggering a rise in cases of depression, anxiety and panic attacks all throughout the country. People are stressed and angry at their current lot yet the government wouldn't allow them to vent their frustrations. China is a social volcano primed to erupt at any moment.
