Today we are looking at a classic, one of the all time greatest and most influential games ever made. And of course, we have to look at the version released on an Atari console. Specifically the Atari Jaguar version. The Jaguar was kind of known for its first person shooters. But does this version of Doom hold up today, or is it a relic of times past? Lets find out!
I score games on a scale of 1-5 and here is what each score means:
5 out of 5 is PERFECT! These are must own games and system defining games too!
4 out of 5 is Great! These are games that you’ll want to own and play!
3 out of 5 is Good. These games have flaws but most people should still enjoy them.
2 out of 5 is Bad. These games have major flaws but a select few might be able to overlook them.
1out of 5 is GARBAGE. Stay away from these steaming piles at all costs!
I also occasionally look at controllers and other peripherals and we give those a score of Recommended, Not Recommended or Undecided. I hope these are self explanatory!

The Atari Network has 3 goals (besides entertainment) that I hope embodies everything the channel does:
1. Bring awareness to Atari, especially the often ignored Tramiel and 7800 era
2. Make sure the hardworking people both new and old (from the old guard at Atari corp to the new developers keeping Atari alive) get the recognition that they deserve for their hard work
3. Preserve the history of Atari in the video game hobby so that it survives long after us

Back in the day I used to play games with music off and the record or tape player going for music. So you say the controller works well for this; does it have an analog stick? I forget, but it seems like it’d be hard to control without one.
I agree with your review. I wonder if there's a way to add music back to Doom, and make it a CD file?
I haven't coded in 40 years so I don't even know if that's feasible or how difficult it would be. It would be cool for people with Game Drives and emulation.
I'll have to check my game drive and see if my CD files are loading.
Dump the cart, box up the system for preservation, & boot up BIGPEMU. Last Jag you'll need.
🎉🎉🎉 Doom rules
Back in the day, I was not aware that Doom was on the Jaguar. But I only played it a few times. It was on a friend’s console; maybe a Sega. As always, enjoyed the review.
id really should went with a Kenmore Elite port.
Really? Kenmore dryer DOOM? 🧺👕👖🧦😂
What hasn't Doom been ported to these days? 🙂
I have tried the Atari 8-bit computer port someone did….. I should check if someone did a 7800 port.
I've never owned an Atari, but I love your channel
To fix your GameDrive delete all the CD games off of you SD card. Then just copy them back over again. That fixed mine.
The missing elements is unforgivable IMHO. This was late 1994. This stuff was (probably) left out to save ROM space and it is only a 4MB ROM. Going to 6MB would not have required extra hardware, just a 48Mbit chip.
I have real copies of both doom and wolf3D, awesome versions!
you forgot to mention the 3DO version..
I bought Jaguar Doom back when it came out. I always enjoyed it. My best friend, also a Jaguar owner, also bought it. We played a few Co-op and Deathmatch games, but when linked the game was not very stable.
I always wanted this version until I found out about the PS1.
Was the best home console version for years despite little music.
Thankfully their were god codes and all weapons
The missing music is what makes this the best port of Doom. Hearing the creatures growl from a distance, not knowing where they are, made this scary as hell.
Ah yes, Doom. The very first game I've ever played. Was lucky enough to play it on a DOS computer in the late 90's. I still come back to it to this days over 2 1/2 decades later, and it's just as good as the first time I picked up that keyboard, except it's an Xbox Series X controller I remap the buttons to on the same executable on DOSBox!
What I don't get is why we didn't get subsequent ports of Doom engine based games like Doom 2, Heretic, Hexen or Strife, given Carmack's personal investment in ensuring the Jag port of the engine was so optimized (that all other console ports used it as a basis). The bulk of the hard work was already done, in the case of Doom 2 & Heretic it would mostly just be a matter of porting assets. If not that, then at least a Rise of the Triad port, which is in the sweet spot of what Jag could comfortably run at a smooth framerate.
Great video i really liked it. Cannot wait for a review of AVP.
IMHO if you've already plucked down the bucks for a Jag, might as well spend the $50 for a loose cart. You'll know you've got the second best port after the PC.
I love your channel!!!
Nice review! Your question (Atari Jaguar Cd): maybe you should re-format your sd card , get latest firmware (your own) and add jcd. files back to you're sd card..
Ok! To me after this latest firmware, i played Battlemorph start to finnish without any problem, except staring issue.. I'm using ScanDisk 32gb SD..
This is just a great version. Love it. ❤
Wouldn’t bother with anything less than perfection at this point. This was something we used to have to deal with now we have pc perfect ports on every system out. Why bother with these old console ports anymore? There’s a difference between classic games and those that are out dated.
I bought this game for my cousin who I gave my jaguar to him because he wanted to play wolfenstein 3d.
