Dolphins-Chiefs Reaction: Patrick Mahomes & KC offense back, Tua a franchise QB? | Colin Cowherd NFL

Colin Cowherd reacts to the Kansas City Chiefs beating the Miami Dolphins in the AFC Wild Card. Are Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs’ offense back, or is there still a concern after some Travis Kelce drops? Should the Dolphins award Tua Tagovailoa a contract extension? Is this franchise a Super Bowl contender in 2024?

  1. This was on the coaches.
    Tua can throw the ball.
But, this was not a game to do that.
The coaches should have had Mostert and Achane running and Tua throwing a lot of easy 10 yard passes to keep the chains moving.

  2. Colin's been right all year, when the Dolphins start out 3-0 next year, can the phony fans stop acting like we won the Super Bowl? This team needs to try and upgrade the qb every year until they get it right. It's much easier to get a game changing qb than to put together a perfect roster and hope they stay healthy for every game. It's not easy but it's 'easier'

  3. You are too quick to judge here Colin. I appreciate it was a bad game for Tua. However, he does have a skill set (one skill set) better than Josh Allen. It is the most important one for a quarterback: accuracy. And decision making (which goes hand in hand with accuracy). He's not better than Josh Allen, but he's not necessary measurable worse either. He's solid. Extend him. He's Drew Breese-like. Breese could not run much. He was undersized (size is way overrated). Who cares about the size if you can get the job done? If he's 4 ft tall but can throw for 4,000 yards and 30 tds, then why does it matter? For a quarterback, poise and decision making is crucial (decisions have to be made within 2-3 seconds too)

  4. I think Colin's on point with KC. I think the better word for Rasheed Rice is he's a "servicable" WR1. I think Justin Watson is a decent WR2, and MVS for those clutch 3rd down situations that Reid drew up all the way back to Chris Conley. What's surprising to me, was how dominant CEH and Pacheco was against subpar D line. I also think the Chiefs will have an answer defensively for the Ravens if they get that far. Spags contained Tua and Tyreek. Overall, I think the Chiefs have enough to make a run. Maybe not dominate, but they have just enough in the tank to take a shot at another SB appearance.

  5. The dolphins don’t have a deep bench for replacing injuries… also Tua is just a good QB not a superstar QB. If this team remains the same they’ll always make the playoffs 1 and done… they need better line backers… and start looking for a Trade for Tua and bring a superstar QB. Cause offense sells tickets but defense wins games

  6. I believe that, while limited in what he can do, Tua IS a franchise QB, as long as he's in the right situation, like the one he's in now. He's certainly not on the level of Mahomes, Burrow, or Josh Allen, the three best QBs in the game today, because of his physical limitations, but he's a more complete QB than others considered to be franchise QBs, such as Trevor Lawrence and Justin Herbert, who when they're at their best, have a much higher ceiling than Tua could ever think of having.

But what we've seen in Miami the past two seasons with Mike McDaniel as head coach is exactly what we saw in Arizona the previous two years (2020 and '21) under Kliff Kingsbury, and that is a team that launches like a comet when the season begins, but flames out as the season nears a close, resulting in an end of the season disappointment. They don't know how to pace themselves, and it shows up at the end of the season, as it has with the Dolphins the past two seasons and the Cardinals the two seasons before that. And it wouldn't surprise me if next season follows the same path for the Dolphins, a fast start and a flame-out finish resulting in an early post-season exit or missing the post-season altogether.

  7. We were never in this game. Another failed season. McDaniel, Fangio, and Tua, all need to be on the hot seat for this. We blew a 3 game lead in our division. Same Dolphins every year. Can't win on the road. Can't win in December. Total choke by the quarterback

  8. Colin was right all along. Great in September/October, not so great in December/January. That’s likely the reality Dolphins fans are gonna have to accept with the way they’re constructed. Best hope is the 1 seed
