Dolly Alderton reads her letter of advice about Botox and aging

Since 2020, journalist and author Dolly Alderton has been offering advice to the general public through her Dear Dolly advice column in the Sunday Times. Earlier this year, she received a question from a reader that read…

‘I am in my late thirties and feel like I look ancient. Lots of my close friends have started to have subtle Botox and I can’t help but feel bitter when I compare myself to them. I don’t want to have it, even if I could afford it. Other than the cost, I worry how sustainable it would be long term. Also I don’t want to set the example for my daughters. What do you think?’

Dolly joined us at Wilderness Festival 2023 in the beautiful Oxfordshire countryside to read it.

  1. That was one of THE best responses to a question I've heard in a very long time. It's made me, a 63yr old who is too afraid to even contemplate any kind of relationship or photograph of myself because of what I used to look like, a lot better about myself. 👏👏👏👏

  2. I think it's a huge mistake to conflate good, fine, perfect, wonderful, satisfactory, fun, pleasant, etc., with "hot." It's a mistake when you're in your 20s, and it's an even bigger mistake when you're in your 50s and you are, in fact, no longer "hot," no matter how much fun you're having. We have to stop thinking "sexy" and "hot" are the be-all, end-all of life; they're not. Strive for goodness, for virtue, and have fun, and be done with this sex-centric nonsense.

  3. That was a fantastic letter that expresses our intrinsic as well as our extrinsic "Hotness!" We age well like a good wine and have more notes and depth to our flavor! Thanks for sharing your letter of advice. Jenny

  4. More people should be bought up and encouraged to be comfortable in their own skin…be more accepting of their looks and others…because beauty is only skin deep…see people for who they are not what they look like….it’s what’s inside that matters most..not the exterior…that’s were love, intelligence, compassion, acceptance of oneself and feelings really come from….it’s superficial people who put others down because of their looks so they can feel good about themselves.

  5. I don't know how I stumbled into this weird channel. The Brits really find the most boring things entertaining. I guess doing anything not being drenched in the rain makes them feel alive.
