  1. How appropriate to have this aired on TV & put up on Nature’s YouTube Channel in August since today is World Lion Day and World African Painted Dog Day’s coming up later this month! 🦁🐺

  3. One of best shows I’ve seen! Hooray for Puzzles and her brood to make it as far as they did.
PBS, you has another tearjerker when Jigsaw, the adolescent and the girl dog in the road were killed! 😫πŸ₯².
I have a new found respect for dogs even though I own dogs and yet ❀️ lions 🦁!
    FANTASTIC SPECIAL!!!!

  4. 18:20 I've seen 3 letters all both within days of each other, if not the same day. The alpha didn't kill them but took over them.
Another was a Jane Goodall documentary "Wild Did of Africa" which she did kill all but 1 of the betas pups and took ownership; and more over, the alpha actually demanded that the beta allow the alphas pups to suckle after alpha weaned n dried up so the alphas pups demanded to suckle the beta at will and the beta had to endure or get attacked and reprimanded by the alpha. Miraculously betas last pup survived.
Another video "Tale of two sisters", the alpha simple took them all over in general and overall. Beta was just another pack member now.

  5. 21:05 def looked like she could sense something wrong immediately. And the bunch of hunters came back straight to her almost as if they're telling her something bad, and she instantly gets up. Incredible to investigate. WOW
So impressive they're all so tight nit and she has to find out without just simply leaving them.

  6. I prefer raw footage without narration than listening to fortune tellers fabricating a fantasy to please the sheep believing every word. Talking as if he knows exactly what wild dogs are thinking. Shammer!

  7. Such a tragic life — but what a resilient Mother!

Painted Dogs are one of my two favorite African predators (cheetah, the other). Habitat loss & proximity to domestic dogs (& their diseases) are their two biggest threats. IOW, MAN — as usual — is the problem. Some countries deal with the threat very well. Botswana's usually in the forefront of species conservation. Others give lip service & do nothing to protect wildlife. Currently, South Africa is trying desperately to "strike a balance" between the needs of man & those of their fauna — it's far from perfect, but it IS an honest attempt.

We need to lose the concept that somehow MAN is entitled to infinite farmland/grazing rights for domestic herds.

Poachers are all too happy to claim "livestock attack" or "crop destruction" as an excuse to kill predators or large herbivores (notice nobody ever claims "springbok or gazelles" ruined their crops!) for trophies, etc. Bushmeat collection is illegal EVERYWHERE, but most hand out a slap on the wrist as punishment (if that).

Just as the International Community came together to save the whale populations in the 60s & 70s (except Japan), so, too, it will take an international effort to save savannah/woodland/even desert creatures for future generations.

  8. This was the episode that helped me to fall completely in love with these wonderful animals. I remember always seeing these Painted Wolves in the background of lion specials, but they are such an incredible species.

  9. I absolutely LOVE painted dogs, they make the cutest sounds and are extremely smart. I watched a documentary on them, a while back, where the dad taught the pups what to in case of Hyena's, lol, he literally pretended to be a hyena and was trying to get their food and nip their butts, it was mind blowingly cute

  10. I just finished this video and it was great. All dogs amaze me. When I think about how tight dogs and humans are, it's so cool. Two completely different animals, species. The only two that share this kind of bond. And we will be together until one of us or both of us aren't around anymore. I just love a goofy happy dog.😎😎😎
