  1. Hi guys, about those flies; if you pop in to any butchers shop in Portugal, you will notice the butcher has these neo-on electric lights on the walls, which zap and frazzle the flies. Usually by the door and at the back of the counter. Worth checking those out.

  2. I heard that if you own a farm in Portugal, you can get money in terms of grants from the Government to help you with expenses in running your farm. That way you could hire people to help you with trimming and pruning, mulching, etc…if you have farm animals you get more money.

  3. There is a comment about planting lavender, sage, and peppermint. That is interesting. I have those things planted near the back side of the house and hardly no flies. Of course I don’t think we would have thousands regardless but that is worth a try. Another great video. Can you check some hot o see if there is a water leak? I have seen Bob the camper van, didn’t realize it was that many years.

  4. Sounds to me that your biting flies are horse or deer flies 'there are few of them where Iive in the Lakeland of Finland. But they live all over Europe. May I suggest you look at buying a H-Trap they certainly work on the ones here. The horse flies live near lakes or ponds that is why you did not see them in the Algarve. They are attracted to your heat signature and the H- trap is a passive solar ball suspended on a frame with a collection canopy funnel and a collection jar.

  5. Did you know you can mix a spray with Listerine mouthwash in a spray bottle and spray anywhere around your door and over your food area safely and it can chase the flies away. From the chosen areas.

  6. You can get fly sticky tape things that you hang, to protect your doorway, or zapper light thing that kills them on contact, but as I'm writing this, I feel that these are extreme things that I don't deal with, but maybe helpful to you.

  7. Do they run sheep in your area? If so, you could see if a farmer would want to run his sheep in there to chew all the grass down. They make excellent lawn mowers. Goats aren’t as good because they spend more time eating the trees or vines.

  8. Hi Ken couple of suggestions again, related to mow the vineyard and de olive tree yard the best option to save your legs and your back i would have a small but a realy small Kubota Trator with PTO and a mower attachment and also there are specific mower to mow between the vines. And related to water I recomend just a simple digging on your dam to increase the water saving. Related to the flys and other creatures I recommend planting a lot o basil around the house. Especialy on the front of the house. A bunch of basil remember. Also I can say these kind of temperature variations and abnormal heat and rain waves are not normal on our clima in Portugal but these are the climatic changes that we have earing from many many ear ago. Now we have 2 possibilities or we gonna have an extreme dry summer or the opposite, 1 day extreme cold 2 or 3 days rainny or bad wheather

  9. yes the flies are annoying but our bug population is down lke 90% we gotta let them live… I bet most 40+ remember how splattered cars windshields where back then… now you only get a few splotches when you drive… it's kinda sad when you think about it… and the swallows, bats and other critters love flies

  10. I think you're getting many flies because you live near a sheep farm, here in Fundão it's not such a big problem, but when i visit my oncle on his sheep farm the flies will swarm inside my car straight away, it's annoying and disgusting!
