Not everyone thinks Stairway To Heaven is a good song. It's essentially a hippy type acoustic folk song, (strongly borrowing from Tauris no matter what the deniers say) and I don't like acoustic folk songs. Plus Plants voice on the finale is so high pitched it sounds comical. I'm more than happy for a band to avoid such pretentious rip offs in their career.

indeed pete: riders on the storm was my first choice by the doors, than the end. I rembered the live version of when the music's over , but as a result it is the classic hit done in summer of '66 and published in january '67. light my fire and yeah I know that jerry scheff plays the bass on riders on storm, who was the live bassplayer of elvis.

Another interesting topic, guys! Here are some songs that come to mind. I wouldn't consider these songs THE "Stairway to Heaven" by these bands, but they're a version of "Stairway to Heaven" for these bands.
1) "Gods of War" by Def Leppard (The best song from 'Hysteria' and I wish they did more tracks like this)
2) "One" by Metallica (probably the first song that comes to mind when I think of Metallica, especially since the music video is iconic)
3) "Ballad in Urgency" by The Black Crowes (very underrated song from 'Amorica;' I love the instrumentation and all the crescendos and decrescendos)
4) "Call to Arms" by Saxon (one of my favorite tracks by the band and I've never heard them do anything like it)
5) "The Years of Decay" by Overkill (It's one big music journey that tells a story)
6) "Eternal Screams" by Withering Scorn (It's such a well-written song and it's my favorite from the debut album)
7) "The Thin Line Between Love and Hate" by Iron Maiden (I love the vocal melodies of this song)
A few of my faves not mentioned are Armored Saint's Aftermath and also Another Day. You mentioned Judas Priest Beyond the Realms of Death which was the first song popped in my head when I saw episode title. I'm also gonna pick Black Sabbath's Falling off the Edge of the World, Winger Headed for a Heartbreak and It all comes back Around. Just a few. So many great ones.

the only criteria being used to deem a choice worthy of being a Stairway to Heaven type..is by song length? your joking right. so measuring cocks is all you got? ok bet. i'm All In with Lynyrd Skynyrd – Free Bird. length 9 min an 8 secs….mines longer. the quintessential American Rock and Roll equivalent to stairway to heaven is Free Bird. which was written by RVZ specifically because of Zeps Stairway popularity and success on american radio stations. Ronnie wanted to control American Rock n Roll charts with his slick southern rock songs…and he did just that.
