  1. GUYS PLEASE, NO SPOILERS
this ideally includes hinting at spoilers please, dr who NEEDS to be experienced spoiler free. Remember how we felt when the BBC spoiled the twists for us, don't be like the BBC

  2. I love this episode, but the closing fall away shot of the Doctor telling Martha about his home is just beautiful stuff. One of the most underrated moments in all of New Who is you ask me. As others have said, man Tennant can sell emotion so incredibly well. Just his eyes alone, so much sadness and memory and missing time long gone (for a Time Lord lol). In any event, this episode to me is one you watch and you think, yeah, this one is pretty good. Then you don't watch it for years or whatever and then you remember why it's so good. Understated, great writing, incredible performance just from Tennant alone – great stuff. Also, kitties!

  3. I want to say things and answer questions and such from your outro. I realize I can't think of a way without giving spoilers, so… I have to just wait for you to catch up to the things I want to mention and maybe hope I remember then, to point back to here.

Spoilers should never be given, unless explicitly requested. "Please tell me, even if it is a spoiler." Would give permission, but even then, the person who knows has to make their own decision "is it better to give the spoiler with permission, or to not spoil and let them find out?"

I look forward to many more episodes with you.

  4. Honestly it is such a joy watching you react to these stories for the first time and remembering my own first time watching them. Especially since you get genuinely invested. I've seen some reactors who seem emotionally stunted and are incapable of taking anything seriously, so these brilliant moments have no effect on them. So thank you for being vulnerable and genuine and really enjoying these stories. I am very excited to see your reactions going forward into the things I know are coming, and I just wish I could sit and binge through it with you right now.

  5. I really should look into it further… but RTD certainly has a "thing" for religion. In this episode we see how the citizens of the motorway all pause and join in the hymn, singing along in unison, as if they were all sitting on pews in a church. I know in the behind-the-scenes for this that RTD talked about the parallels with religion when writing the scene… and I know that before Doctor Who RTD created a mini series called The Second Coming (staring a certain Christopher Eccelston). It was that series which convinced me that the future of Doctor Who was in safe hands. I'm Atheist, but know a lot about religion… and TSC was very intriguing and showed off both talents – the acting of Chris, and writing of Russ.

  6. oh no watching this at the office was a mistake. Now I wanna run home and cuddle my cats . The Doctor his right even if he didn`t mean it. That`s what every city needs, a cat in charge. That`s what the world needs. Chose cats not war, chose cats not hatred.

  7. What I enjoy in RTD's scripts is how he builds on the contrast of a very ordinary human companion facing the weirdness of the Doctor and his world: the richness of concepts, the tempo, the wide emotional scale, and the blatant cheesiness.

He is also good at building long story arcs. While, being the show runner, he may insert details relevant to the series arc into any episode, in his own scripts he may make even more use of such material, sometimes spanning from one series to another. And he usually does that in a very surprising and satisfying manner.

  8. "The Doctor is scary when he's angry."
Yes. Yes, he is. I wouldn't want to be on his bad side.

As someone who HATES traffic to the point where I work nights just to avoid it as much as possible this episode is my definition of Hell. Decades of being stuck in traffic would (no pun intended) drive me insane.

  9. This episode sealed the deal for me regarding Martha. I did like her from the start due to her intelligence and compassion. But when she planted herself on the chair at the end, it forced the Doctor to confront his grief and not run away from it.

  10. You are so beautifully invested In this show, and it is so appreciated. You have by far the best and most emotional reaction to watching theses episodes and it really resonates with other fans of the show.

  11. One thing I love/hate about the doctor is the way he's so emotionally closed off/stoic. I love it because I can strongly relate to it, because growing up as a man, you're kind of expected/pushed into that kind of stoicism and emotional repression, and I can really resonate with a lot of how he handles his emotions. But I also hate it because it's such a catastrophically unhealthy way to handle your emotions, and it's something that I'm still struggling to overcome. And I also slightly hate it because we need more representation of men being capable and willing to express their emotions openly, and characters like the doctor do contribute to the existing expectation of stoicism.

  12. Pretty sure is not a spoiler but anyone watching DW definitely must watch everything from Eccleston’s Doctor onward, no skipping episodes. There are so many little things (mentioned/encountered) that later on turn out to be major plot points, and if you’ve skipped then things will make less sense as you don’t know exactly why things are happening. (Especially anything with River)
