japanese command actualy didnt give bikes to their bycicle battalions doring invasion of singapur, they were ordered to steal from Singapourian population
This is a major factor in modern standards. Even today, the bottom bracket is usually a 1.37" threaded affair. This was the standard used by BSA and ultimately became so common that even now it's the standard for threaded systems. Unfortunately it means a 30mm crank axle is the uppermost limit. The only up-to-date standard to exceed the longevity of the BSA BB is the 22.2mm (⅞") handlebar diameter.
I still think that bycicles are useful. They are easy to learn and hillariously cheap and easy to maintain. They make infantery way faster without using any more ressources than some repair packs and a few calories more a day. It keeps a soldier fit aswell. Combined with bags and maybe attached wagons you can take more supplies and ammunition and maybe even disassembled Mortars, AT or AA-weapons, all in small size of course. And ofc I'm talking about modern, robust bikes, something between mountain- and trekkingbike. And for transport uses only, not as combat vehicle.
The mighty bicycle battalions.
Yup.
The Japanese took Malaya and Singapore very easily due to fielding bicycles.
Even if WWIII breaks out.
Bicycles will be the most useful transport for militarym

Bikes are the most efficient way of transportation ever to exist, not electric cars, not trains, not space ships, not walking, bicycles
