Do Sean Payton and the Denver Broncos need more out of Russell Wilson to make the NFL playoffs?

Russell Wilson has been one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL in the red zone and at the end of games for the Denver Broncos this year.

But he only has the 19th most passing yards in the NFL, behind Minnesota Vikings’ QB Joshua Dobbs, New Orleans Saints QB Derek Carr, Seattle Seahawks QB Geno Smith and Green Bay Packers QB Jordan Love.

Since the comeback win over the Chicago Bears in Week 5, Wilson only has one 200+ yard passing game.

Does Sean Payton need more from Russell Wilson in order for the Broncos to make the playoffs? Or is his efficient and timely play enough for the Broncos to make a run in their final five games against the Detroit Lions, Los Angeles Chargers, New England Patriots and Las Vegas Raiders?

Plus, NFL Network analyst Brian Baldinger joins us to break this down plus talk about the Broncos loss to the Houston Texans and how Denver’s defense can stop Justin Herbert, Austin Ekeler and Keenan Allen.

On the DNVR Broncos Podcast, Super Bowl 50 Champion Todd Davis, Zac Stevens and Alexis Perry are coming to you LIVE from the DNVR Bar to break down all of the latest news in Broncos Country.

  1. You guys do realize Sean payton was calling the plays for Russ to throw the ball down field. As much as I love Sutton they need to throw the ball down field to Mims or Judy let's use our speed.

  2. The offensive line was terrible on Sunday…having said that, Russell cannot read a defense (pre or post snap) can't see over the line, can't run Sean Payton's offense, is missing wide open receivers all over the place and is certainly not worth 40+ million a year. This team desperately needs a quarterback in the draft. Russell was a B+ QB in Seattle, he is now between a C- and a C. That's not worth the amount of money he makes. Simple as that.

  3. She said limit his game? That just pissed me off what? You do courtland dropped a deep pass right? You do know refs didn’t call that PI for mims right? Man let that broncos offense be balance and stopped being predictable. Once that run game is stopped what y’all gonna do? He needs to throw let him throw more cut the B.S

  4. Russell Wilson is being paid like a top 5 QB and is playing like a bottom 10 QB. There is no reason to believe that he will do anything but decline from here. The Broncos need to trade up as high as they can in the draft and get a QB and cut Russ in the offseason. Get someone like Jameis or Teddy as a bridge to teach the young guy the ropes and then let him loose. Raise the ceiling for the team, ‘cause Russ’ ceiling is pretty low.

  5. Saying you can neutralize Mack isn’t gonna help when the chargers are top 5 in getting sacks in the league. One thing Brandon Staley does well is create 1on1 matchups for his edge rushers or Morgan fox.

  6. If I’m Sean, I’m calling more games like Houston until Russ can start connecting on those deep balls consistently, win or lose. Perhaps that’s the reason he’s making 20 million and I’m not.

  7. Yes!…the young lady was off with her commentary…if russ doesn't have opportunity nor do the receivers and as a result the O is rendered one dimensional…he missed a few & hit a few…ball hit mims in the helmet, krull should have attacked that int…The Juedy miss was likely due to the dismal O line…Sutton missed a bomb which he's earned the right to …no receiver but Sutton has proved themselves…We have no reputable TE…then you're putting russ in a new system each year with new personnel & expect soley him to make everyone mesh…everyone has gotta be better not just russ…Come on DNVR crew
