  1. Oh Cassie, my sweet summer child. Yes, the weapons; that's all we (as a civilization) care about. If you look at the majority of major inventions in the past, the follow-up question is always "how can we weaponize this".

  2. "Maybe the aliens are nice"
I have bad news for you about the humans

"I don't see how this ends well… for anyone involved"
I have bad news for you about the main character

"The media in that movie can just say whatever they want and people will believe them"
I have bad news for you about the real world media

    Ok, I'll stop šŸ˜†

  3. yeah there was really never a movie like this before or since.. i remember when it came out, it was mind blowing for me. the special effects blended so well with the documentary style and the alien tech was so cool and well done. but yeah this movie is also a pretty scathing commentary on human nature (a running theme in Blomkamp's movies) and contains heavy references to south africa's history of apartheid

  4. HI Cassie! WOW. I can't even believe you made it through this movie!. I would've never thought to put you through this. It is not for the weak. But, it is so immersive. Glad your sister wasn't here for this. She would be traumatized more than you. Thank you for giving it a go and, WOW, I can't believe you watched this all the way through!…You need to make another post review. I hope we don't put you through any more of these with out your consent. Brave sister! Thanks again.

  5. Another scifi movie by the same director and also situated in Johannesburg which I can highly recommend to everyone is 'Chappie'. It's about robots instead of aliens, so it's less gross, but it's also strange, fun and witty.

Oh, and it features the band Die Antwoord, two characters are played by the head band members and a lot of their music is in the movie, so if someone hates the band, they might not like it. I never knew anything about them, but after seeing the movie I started thinking that it had a pretty amazing soundtrack in places, so I found out and gained a new band and a sub-genre of music to enjoy.

  6. It is also a study of discrimination and Apartheid from the perspective of Aliens. The aliens in society, which happen to be real aliens, are discriminated, berated, demeaned and separated from society. Do the foreigners in our own societies deserve to be treated the same way as these aliens. It clearly is a historical science fiction based upon the what transpired in South Africa.

  7. Cassie: you need a break from all this stress. Try watching "Kelly's Heroes." It stars a very young Clint Eastwood and lots of other stars from the 70's and 80's. You'll like it.

  8. I've seen a lot of movies and this one is easily in my top 5. There's nothing like it. If you think about it, it's more about what people are as a species than it is about aliens. The aliens are just a device that helps you focus on how we treat "different" people. Specifically, this movie is an echo of apartheid in SAR, but it applies to racism and other ism-s that our society is plagued with.

  9. Oh yeah, "District 9" is a trip. If you give it some time and attention, it'll grab you and leave you reeling. I'm not a big fan of "found footage" movies, but this one's definitely worth watching. It's one of a kind.

  10. hmm cassies reaction to the 'found footage' style film has me thinking she's never seen the original 99 the blair witch project?
if true that could make a pretty great reaction video

  11. I love your channel and reviews, but what is scary is that you think the media isn't just straight up lying to you NOW. They are telling you what the government wants you to think, or what corporations want you to think (and in some cases, those are basically the same people). The government and corporations are primarily, groups of people who are largely ungoverned. Its not a matter of whether your paranoid or not, its a question if your paranoid ENOUGH. In my 50 some years in this world, I have found that the government, corporations and "special Interest" groups have pretty much lied to us about pretty much everything they have ever said. What terrifies me is that this younger generation has no critical thinking capabilities, and believe anything the media tells them….but I suppose that is the governments ultimate goal anyway. Raise the next generation to believe any bullshit they tell us, so that everyone will be good little sheep and let them do whatever they want.

  12. This movie felt real because it was based on true events, particularly 1970s South Africa during Apartheid in Cape Town, District 6. They just swapped out the residents with Aliens for the movie. When Christopher said he would come back in 3 year I and so many people were so excited for a sequel. But it never happened and should! GREAT MOVIE!!!!!
