  1. Chapek was head of Disney for such a short time her could "reasonably" claim to know nothing about this. The evidence being that as soon as all this was about to hit the fan he was ousted – in the middle of the night without warning.

  2. Love the "It's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow" theme song playing during the EPCOT presentation. It's a shame the real EPCOT was not even attempted.

  3. Great stream, wish I could have seen it live. I'm rather familiar with the formation of Reedy Creek since I've read a lot on the original E.P.C.O.T. project. I would recommend the book "Walt and the Promise of Progress City" which goes into more detail on the land acquisition and the reasoning for the way Reedy Creek was set up. It made sense for Walt's plan but was clearly perverted afterwards.

  4. Can I suggest two videos by midway to main street formerly Rob plays on YouTube. He did deep dives on subjects. First is RCID and the other is Disney's two cities. Combined the videos are twenty-five minutes

  5. Considering the parks are Disney's main money maker and they didn't fulfill their EPCOT obligations, Disney probably should have not drawn govt attention to themselves.

  6. I just read some history on Celebration, as part of it, they said the original place for Walt's dream experimental city was just too impractical. At the time.

  7. I don’t think it was just smoking that killed Walt Disney. I think his diet also had something to do with it. Some smokers live past 65. Just ask Dionne Warwick.

  8. What size was Epcot CITY supposed to be? 20,000 people is very light for 27,000 acres.
For perspective Manhattan is only 14,000 acres and was home to almost 1.7 million people in 1960 (U.S. Consensus Bureau).

  9. If apple can have a giant radial headquarters the size of a small city, the Epcot radial design can work for an actual city. Just depends on the size and plans for movement/transportation and plans for expansions

  10. 46:45 (edited for correct time) – Discussion of James Rouse who was working with Disney. Rouse founded Columbia MD, which was a similar idea ( planned community from scratch). Wild that Disney and Rouse worked together.

no kidding, it was never started.
But seriously, when your pitch is a continuing evolution of cutting edge technology, the whole "we can zone it to do anything we want" makes more sense.

  12. Hey man. Every area in Florida is now 1.5+ for a single bedroom box apartment. All the New York and California transplants moved in and jacked up the prices. They're used to getting work over so they made sure to mess it up for all of us native floridians.

  13. I went on everyone of those rides at Disneyland in that video back then.. It was an amazing place. I won't go there anymore. About 15 or 20 years ago I got off the freeway at Disney and there was a huge billboard that said something to the effect of "Stop the Corrupt Disney Corporation". The locals in Orange County were upset over how the local government was let Disney to what they wanted. Yes, In CA, the county is also Orange County. The area Disney purchased was Orange Trees.

  14. When you said rat it clicked in my head that Disney is literally Professor Ratigan from The Great Mouse Detective. They can't stand being called out as a "rat"…

  15. I have been reading a bunch of old kids books that I grew up with to my kids recently. The Disney ones are the only ones that don’t credit the authors and illustrators. Only the company is credited.

  16. From the Disney Video they mention James Rouse he was the designer for the planned community of Columbia Maryland. The planned city is huge and actually has people and everything. The Community is in Howard County Maryland and is midway between Baltimore and Washington. Dc. Mr Rouse also designed the Baltimore Inner harbor Harbor Place in Downtown Baltimore in 1980. Cheers!

  17. I gotta say your analysis is very intriguing. There is a lot that goes into running a township, city, special district or state. Legally speaking. It’s very interesting that the word bonds has all but disappeared from the conversation on the oppositions coverage. They know that legally a private company can’t have the same powers as a state government. Sovereigns only can exist through long standing traditions. Disney will never have sovereignty no matter how much political power it can get.

  18. If you haven't read the book Cities of Tomorrow by Peter Hall I'd recommend it. Also I think they talk about the origins of the radial plan city in it. Nice read for city planning nerds

  19. This film was shown in 1966 to the public on his show, Wonderful World of Color on a major network. I think NBC on Sunday nights. I remember it from then. I got to go to Disneyland the next year in 1967.

  20. Disney had a dream of a perfect city however it is the ultimate example of big government planning everything for the residents. This is the big lie and is government by the elite – average people aren’t smart enough to plan or run anything.

You might consider the wedding chapel at Grand Floridian a type of church.

  21. soooo he wanted to design Dubai? They may not have built the city. HOWEVER, they definitely contributed to the economic boom that is still going to this day 780M per year. vs Universal who doesnt have special exemptions who pays 135M per year.

Would i4 expand? Would the 408 be built? or the 429 be built?
Would anything west of metro west be anything other than orange groves?

Take them away and Florida would be Mississippi….poor/conservative/uneducated….a little woke for an elevated economy is a decent trade. Just keep the alphabet people away from kids.

  22. The envisioned Epcot city sounds very cool. I admit it I'd love to peak in on the timeline Walt lived and accomplished the Epcot dream. What can I say I am a sci-fi nerd and the whole atomic age tech enthusiasm appeals to me greatly.

  23. Tony Stark's father is usually compared to Howard Hughes, but the scene in Iron Man 2 where Tony watches a video of his father shortly before his death reminds me so much of this Walt Disney video.
I love history, thus it's so fascinating watching you cover this. It makes me want to bring Walt's dream into reality in the game Cities Skylines.
