Disneyland's FUTURE House from the PAST

House of the future from the past that promised the future of plastics ended up being a retrofuturist ideal home of the present more than it was actually futuristic. Or something along those lines.

  1. So my dad contacts with theme parks for different attractions and shows and actually worked on the house of the future at Epcot in the innoventions building. My brother and I and our now wives went to it while it was still open and got a tour by one of the cast members working that area. I remember it being fine, one of the things that has stuck with me for a long time was while they were showing off the bathroom they said that the fan was blowing at full blast and it was completely silent. I imagine there probably wasn't a fan at all. The thing we came for was my dad programmed the cookbook tablet (I think iPads were around at the time, but this was a custom thing) and one of the recipes was for a custom cake. He needed a picture so he used a photo of a Dr Who themed TARDIS cake that my then girlfriend had made for my sister's birthday party. It was really cool to see and the tour guide even brought that recipe up because it was her favorite.

  2. Epcot was the inspiration of the building of another home of the future in Kissimmee actually. Bob Master who had built the Xanadu house in Wisconsin decided to build a second one in Florida because of the opening of Epcot. It was made of foam insulation. Never went there and honest any pictures I sawr were creepy looking. That weird foam texture.

  3. I would like to see what creative people would dream up as the house of the future today. It would probably have a lot of smart home technology and a lot of green energy with a focus on reusing instead of consuming and replacing stuff. Modern architects could design a highly funcional convertable room and stuff. And of course every house will have a fully automated green house so one can always have the freshest produce at hand. or something like that

  4. Ever since I saw Justin Scarred's video on this, I've always wanted to reach my hand through the greenery and touch the bit of foundation leftover from the House of the Future when I go to Disneyland.
