No business is safe from DeSantis in Florida. He will abuse the power of his office to shut down your business if you say something he doesn't like.
Those numbers you cite are not from convid.
RCID and Disney are separate entities, but for practical purposes, Disney is illegally self-dealing the development agreement. So the lawsuit by itself is defective. Disney’s first amendment free speech isn’t violated because the district was dissolved. Disney isn’t punished.
It’s too bad once DeStupid loses his day in court, it won’t involve a prison sentence. The laws he has rammed down the throat of Florida are nothing less than CRIMINAL!
Great reporting thank you for your time.
This has now gone far beyond just Disney. Every American should be praying they win this lawsuit. Because if they don't, then that means it's now okay for government to punish businesses, and by extension private citizens, for speaking freely. That's not liberty, that's dictatorship. If you don't like Disney, fine. What happens when it's you that an angry, vindictive, narcissistic government official is targeting? Can't do anything about it because with the Disney case now there's legal precedent.
Avoiding to talk about things because it makes people uncomfortable is a big part of the problem. So yes, let’s stay informed.
Tom keep reporting, Desantis vs Disney it is awesome to see this unfold. Too bad their not at a conclusion but eventually they will figure things out
He's going to alienate potential voters that might vote for him if he keeps attacking Disney, IMHO.
I'd love for you guys to do a "dummies guide" to what the hell is going on with this Reedy Creek thing, I haven't a clue 😆
Sue sue sue him until he and his supporters and the entire Republican Party bleed white through their wallets.
They should sue – its blatant what and why DeSantis did what he is doing – hell, he admitted it. Humiliate him Disney!!!!!
It's news, it's big news!! That's what you do (and you do a dam fine job of it) , please keep it up. And Thank You <3
Since the first move (threat), a lawsuit was coming – and an easy win for Disney…
Disney has no political part by any means. So Disney Should Back out.
And keep it’s magic going.
Go ahead governor, pick a fight with the company that brings in half your states tourism. This is gonna be fun.
Universal and other parks in FL have NO special treatment or exemptions—why should Disney? That’s what the whole controversy is about. Disney wants to operate within the state with impunity. Sorry, being special is over. 🤔🤔
Don't like the right or the left. With ya brother. All this nonsense is just diversionary bread and circuses over nonsense, when REAL issues that matter like the environment and the national debt just get totally ignored. To be honest I am not a fan of Desantis AT ALL, and not a super big fan of Disney either. The monorails, if they are still anything like they were, though, could really use some safety requirements. I used to pull dynamic brakes not infrequently and have one of the two groups just refuse to function. That is the braking system (I assume, still) that gets you down to just a couple of mph where air brakes are typically used.
Largest layoffs are comming. Time for another rant.
Bob Chapek should have never sign the Don’t say Gay Bill then this would have Started the Walt Disney Company have been involved in politics since Michael Eisner Was CEO of The Walt Disney Company and They should have never got involve in politics
Disney needs to stay out of politics and focus on entertaining guests, not laying off employees every 5 years, and providing wealth for their investors…..you know, THEIR JOB.
Hoping Mickey rips RD a new mouse hole 🕳️ 😂🎉
“That government is best that governs least” Except in Florida nearing Presidential election time?
Disney has become hostile and filed a lawsuit 🤣🤣 Disney keeps wanting to get L's 🤣🤣 Tom don't stop reporting on news.. Might be tough for people to see reality but people should get out of their own alternative reality sometime 🤣🤣🤣
I thought Igar was going to "cool the political climate?"
This is exactly what the first amendment is for. It’s to protect against government persecution for speaking out against something they are doing. No matter what you think about what was said or about the subject of their statement, they have the right to say it without government retaliation.
While leaving Jungle Cruise in MK a few weeks ago I saw a shirt that said “DeSantis is an idiot”. Made sure to complement that guy and his shirt
Yes we should be concerned. It is not about left or right issue this DeSantis/ Disney issue. DeSantis is doing this for his presidential ambition and we the tax payers have to foot the bills for all these nonsense even though he has been personally sued not the state of Florida.
What about that Disney100 breakfast cereal? Doesn't that count?
just saying if that monorail in the airport can pass state inspection… disney has nothing to worry about when it comes to theirs.
The chances of DeSantis winning this battle are about as good as there being performances of "Fantasmic!" in California before (speculation) November of 2023.
It’s funny because, as a safety-critical cast member, I’ve seen Reedy Creek inspections and now I’ve gotten to witness Orange County doing the same inspection and man the state is BAD at it. Disney has actively become a less safe place because the state is doing inspections. They care about so much less and have much lower standards.
I'm sick of this D-swinging contest by both sides. Thank God for the FF button.
I like the desandtits v disney updates.. i want to see him suffer..
If Disney wins their lawsuit they should totally Followup by immediately permanently trespassing Darth Santis and his entire family from every Disney owned property!😂😂😂
I agree with Tom the right and the left have both gone bat crap crazy
Personally, I'm moderate and I don't like to pick sides, but I think given the rhetoric of the governor and the people he picked, there's no genuine basis of defense of the government's actions. There's no elected representation for WDW (the primary tax payer and resident of the district) or from Odessa and Orange counties neighboring the district. There's no opposition representation on the board either, being comprised exclusively of political actors hand picked by the governor to enforce his ideological whims on the District, not even to enforce Florida state laws. Literally no discernable difference between it and a communist party oversight committee put in place to ensure ideological conformity with party ideals.
To be clear, there may have been some valid concern about RC prior to the "Don't Say Gay Bill" and their opposition to it, but it's worth pointing out that Disney is the sole resident of the district. They were given control over the improvement district because when WDW was being constructed, Odessa and Orange counties lacked the necessary infrastructure to support the construction or the ultimate operation of the park. Disney paid for roads, water shed, sewage, and even power plants to run the park, and Orange and Odessa county have benefitted from that infrastructure and the growth WDW created in their counties. The whole state has and continues to benefit from WDW and the old RC board. No other park or private project operates at the scale of WDW which is why they continued to enjoy their special relationship with the state for so long. There were no valid, non-ideological reasons to pull Disney's ability to self govern the park, their permitting, and other projects.
LGBTQAI+ issues aside, Disney has the right to have an opinion and to voice it, just as any of us do. The Government does not have the right to use it's power to shut down free speech or retaliate against those who choose to exercise it. I hope Disney wins its injunction and that the courts uphold its contract with RC. I further hope the courts place a gag order on desantis and prohibit him from further inflammatory and damaging rhetoric against WDW and Disney Corporation.
People wanting to avoid talking about it are either more willing to be blind than uncomfortable (a problem) or don’t want to come outright and say they are a fan of this nonsense as it becomes even more obvious this was a petty clout-chase from a guy who wanted to get in the news before announcing a presidential candidacy (not that it was hidden to begin with).
I’ve always found it a little shady to give a company as much free reign as Disney has in Orlando. We’ve mostly just been lucky they’ve mostly done a good job holding it together and haven’t tried any weirdness like many others would have. It truly was just the neatest way to build and run WDW and they treated it that way. But doing something about it WHEN they did, started by WHO started it, after how many years of things being so fine, it’s just petty. Like you said, political theater.
Why did Desantis sign the new district into law if he was going to have a huge problem with it? Didn't Destantis and his layers read and consider the new district proposal before Desantis signed it? Was the desolution of the new district even legal? Desantis shouldn't be governor of Florida much less president
Yes, the government is out of control, and not for the people!
That DAK time capsule got me more emotional than I expected it to.
Can someone tell me why the state was not inspecting the monorail? It seems to me like this should have happened for the last 50 years.
I bet the base of those churros would make great keepsakes
I think we can all agree that POLITICS sucks!
I think it’s funny that you say you don’t like the right or the left because you’re centrist and that both sides have gone too extreme when American left is actually centrist on the entire political spectrum… Like, whaaaat???? 🤣
The issue isn’t far left or right, the issue is Disney standing up for equality for all and the governor not liking that.
I know for a fact that Disney has been moving some of their executives into the area I live in. I'm in the state of Tennessee but I would rather not say what part. I know this through pharmacy chat. I went to pick up a prescription and there was a nice older gentleman was ahead of me one day and we had a pleasant conversation while we were waiting in line. After he left my pharmacist told me that he was pretty new to our area, and he was an executive with Disney. But he was not the only one that came there, there were several others that transferred to our area that used their store. One had even given a young pharmacist there some passes for meals when he found out she was going for a visit. I never thought very much about it because where I live was voted one of the top areas to live in the US, I just figured they moved here because of that. But there has also been a rezoning going on in the area of over 12000 acres plus three times that tied up. I'm not saying the rezoning is Disney but If Disney loses, could they be planning on leaving Florida in the coming years?
One of the key facts here is that the 1st Amendment applies to Individuals, Not corporations [Morse v. Frederick (2007)] and had the statement been made by the President of Disney as his personal view, it would have been fine, but since it was a company statement, it does not have protection under the 1st Amendment.
This “both sides are crazy” “this os what’s wrong with politics” lost you a subscriber. You could just report what’s going on and that’s fine. And I’m sure you are trying not to alienate viewers but views like your disenfranchises people. Makes it okay to skip dialing in to what is going on around them. Right or left.why encourage that?
I know this isn’t an airline but I did like your channel.
Tell it like it is Tom! 😉
