I had real reservations about Disney Dreamlight Valley until I saw my wife playing it. I watched for hours and saw how finished this game is for early access. The range of characters you meet and interact with is staggering and because its set in the Disney universe it literally has no end. The map is really large and is split up into separate ‘lands’ all with different quests for you to complete in the same style as World of Warcraft. Some quests are easy for instance clearing all the thorns in a given area and then others much larger like adding new characters from different biomes into your land. Even at this point in the early access release the game feels quite polished and even though some bugs do exist they are quite fe and far between in my experience. For the money i paid for this (£17 in a Steam sale) I really cannot fault it at all, there are hundreds of hours in this game currently and as the time goes on i can only imagine more lands and characters will be added. You use tools for mining, digging, planting crops, making food and fishing, this is where the game excels in my opinion. Unlike Animal Crossing and other games of similar ilk you have to keep on making new tools as the old ones degrade and finally brake, that uses up loads of inventory space and really annoys me. In Dreamlight Valley that isnt a problem, the tools you are given stay with you, none break (so far, 4 hours into the game) and none degrade!!
There are some downsides however, there are microtransactions but to Gameloft’s credit they are quite buried and not that easy to find and the character dialogue is quite repetitive I really hope they add more as time goes on. After 4 hours of play so far those two minor downsides are not too bad at all, i’m impressed and highly recommend the game of all ages.
