DINOSAUR WORLD | Florida's Roadside Dino Attraction

In central Florida, there are some pretty solid attractions if you really like dinosaurs as a theme. However, if you’ve ever made the drive between Tampa and Orlando, then the massive Dinosaur World sign must have caught your eye on the way there. Today, we explore this interesting road-side attraction and see what it has to offer.

  1. We have a dinosaur would about an hour away from Fort Worth in Glen Rose Texas! Definitely geared towards kids, but still fun! Plus the museums is next to Dinosaur valley state park, they have real dinosaur foot prints there, still in the river!

  2. I would go to Dinosaur World as a kid some 20 years ago. It's nice to see it hasn't fallen into disrepair, forlorn and forgotten. It holds a warm place in my heart, this place and Bok Tower.

  3. Wow, this fills me with nostalgia. When I was little, every other year, my parents would take me here. We couldn’t afford Lego land or Disney every year, so we’d go here. Being an idiot kid, I found it an equal experience to legoland or Disney at a time. This really takes me back.

  4. So I did the Orlando-Tampa drive about a year back. It was in a rental and going between visiting family. It was a very boring drive. However just outside Tampa I saw a giant T-rex looming over the highway and was confused and impressed. However I had a dinner to meet, so I kept going into tampa. I parked outside the tampa art museum which was closed save the gift shop. So bored I looked through it. It turns out there was a shirt with 'Tampa' and the giant T-rex looming over the highway.

I bought it on the spot.

  5. If you have kids and want to plan a day trip with a meal and more easy-going sights, there's a winery called Keel Farms (formerly Two Henrys) off the same exit as Dinosaur World, and they do tours of their farms and winery (the location is absolutely beautiful) and they have a full restaurant and shop where they sell their wines, hard ciders, and other merchandise as well. The food is really good too, so the experience is definitely worth stopping by. A day of Dinosaur World and Keel Farms could make for a fun, relaxing family excursion on a weekend when you're looking for something fun and engaging to do without breaking the bank.

  6. Oh my gosh, I SO agree on Dinoland! It's one of the pillars on which Animal Kingdom was built (extinct animals) and should be reimagined, not replaced.

I would be hesitant to call Dinosaur World educational, however, as many of the dinosaurs are depicted in ways that would have been dated even when it opened. Many of the exhibits look like they came from the early 90's/late 80's.

  7. I have heard of a person who does not like dinosaurs, even refuses to believe they were real, because they are too ridiculous to believe existed. Not even in a religious sense, like in the thought of T-rex is just to dumb to fathom. So now I know the lack of imagination and wonder we see infecting Disney is out there.

  8. Grew up near here and went as both a child and now as a parent. What always got me a bit was just how violent some of the depictions are. Not a particularly prudish person, but it always made me wonder a bit who exactly this is aimed for? Kids, sure, but when some of the statues have their eyeballs eaten out by other dinosaurs, you wonder if the creators had a bit of a dark sense of humor? Took my 4 year old and definitely had to distract him a few times during some of the more violent images 😂 Anyone else caught off guard by this?

  9. My traveling days are over as I foster and rescur Cats at this time in my life and would not leave them unattended for a long period of time.
So your videos remind me of good times visiting all over the U.S and also act as a window to the larger world as well.
Thank you for your enjoyable and educational content.

  10. I like this kind of stuff for getting the scale of dinosaurs. It's nice that they are trying to be as accurate as they can with there displays too. Also, I hope they bring that version of the JP ride to the US!

  11. When I was a kid around the turn of the milennia, my mom used to have to drive down to Tampa to pick up her meds, and I'd always BEG her to stop here. Just getting to see it from the car window was always the highlight of the trip. Finally, she relented and we planned a family trip out there; it's still one of my favorite childhood memories.

One thing that's been a nice suprise over the last twenty years is how the place has not only managed to stay afloat, but that it's grown SO much since that trip back then (I remember FREAKING out when they added the indor exhibit). Always brings a nostagiac smile to my face when people bring it up. 😄

  12. Thank you so much for covering this topic! I have lived in central Florida my entire life and have memories seared into my mind of seeing Dinosaur World every time my parents drove to my grandparents’ house in Tampa. I always know I’m halfway between my parents house and my Nanna’s house when I see the giant T-Rex. I’ve been a few times as a child and have fond memories of it. I liked the concept of just being outside and walking around, exploring things, joking around with my family, laughing at the dinosaurs. It’s worth the money for how unique it is. I loved Dinosaur World and MOSI. We never had money for Disney but I never regretted it because my parents took us to these amazing and educational places. I still have the plastic dinosaur I bought at the gift shop.

  13. I went here in 2018, had a pretty good time (even if I did get stung by a wasp immediately after walking in lol). The paleontology show was open at the time and was great, and there was also a show featuring a person in a dinosaur costume being “trained”. I love the aesthetic of the park and how cheesy it is.

  14. Gosh, i remember going here for a fieldtrip when i was little… i loved this place so much, it never lost its charm. With all the classic original stuff at WDW being replaced with movie IPs, im so happy Dinosaur World has stayed relatively the same. Never change, Dinosaur World. (Well, maybe that dino mini-golf though.)

  15. I live about 20 mins from this attraction, and while it can basically summed up with that tiktok audio of the Jurassic Park theme song being played on a kazoo, we had an absolute ball going through the walking trail and admiring how.. expressive the dinosaur sculpts were.

  16. I remember going with a partner, my favorite part of the board walk were seeing all the turtles sunbathing near the dinosaur figures. Yeah it’s campy but it’s the Florida charm campy.

  17. I really appreciate the way you take the time o highlight some of the older and less well-known attractions. Have you considered doing a video about Weeki Wachee? I mean, I know there isn't a lot there, but it ha been around forever and is one of those original roadside attractions.

  18. Your discussion of the (lacking) mini golf course here reminded me of the many many mini golf courses in the outer banks of north carolina. I believe there was/is even a dinosaur themed one somewhere there! Not sure it would be up your alley but I think it would be an interesting video topic. I haven't been there in years but even now I still vividly remember the myriad of mini golf places in obx. There's a mining themed one in particular that I remember being pretty well themed and having a mine train.
