Rules:
1. Only my starter in battle
2. No items in battle, except held items
3. No glitches, exploits, or save states
4. No movepool evasion-boosting moves before level 100*
Rule details:
— I make no attempt to have the exact same rule details between generations.
— I am allowed to manipulate my starter
— I play the game at 4x game speed
— For fair comparisons my Pokemon have perfect (or near perfect) DVs / IVs
— I am allowed to catch HM users – I can use all field moves
— Evasion boosting is allowed if the move is not obtained from the Pokemon’s movepool. For example, using Mimic or Mirror Move to boost evasion is allowed.
— Surge’s trash-can-puzzle is automatically solved
— The bike is allowed in gen1 & 4, banned in gen2, and allowed only to bypass terrain in gen3
— Saving between league members is allowed
— I can pause the game and timer to take breaks
— Items obtained with the ability Pickup can only be used if the starter obtained them
— The footage is sped up & slowed down to match the pace of my narration
These Rule details apply only to generation 1:
— All battle-mechanic glitches are allowed (glitches that occur outside of battle are banned)
— In generation 1, I’m allowed to skip Marowak with the Poke Doll

If you’re new around here, Venomoth is a Psychic/Flying type, you can’t change my mind.

So, I just got a “get what you get” Pokémon themed tattoo and I got drowzee, so ya bois waiting on drowzee now!
1:34:27 Flareon's Flamethrower PP shows 142.
snowy's bide commentary made me zone out in the same way that i do when my wife goes into doctor talk
Big yellow crossover caught me of guard, but it was a very nice surprise!
Thinking about Sandslash, it'll be interesting to see how well each of the champion's team members ranks on the tier list by the end. The only ones missing at this point are redos for Alakazam and Cloyster. (also happy Mother's Day to Marowak, may her soul rest easily, especially with all the dolls that Scott supplies her with on a regular basis)
Sea Ike?
Comment
I'd prefer sykes like the bad guy from Oliver, cause its a lot less awkward than just sike
Really hope you give us a Yellow Legacy playthrough.
SteveMPlays did a Maowak play through and found body slam to be better than ice beam or blizzard for gyrados
Anyone else chuckle when he said bone move and PP in the same sentence.
Always a treat these versus videos, awesome job 🙂
29:38 – this kind of subtle humor ("like, we can probly just skip Sur– so after finishing the third gym leader…..") is that Goldilocks amount of 'you know what joke im going for, so im not gonna beat you over the head with it'…[chef's kiss]
I love it when you make audio mistakes with the editorial corrections, you nail it in a humorous way
Is that last Blaine-gym guy the tombstoner bro :)?
Also, what Gym Leader Matt video did that meme start in?
I must have dozed off when you mentioned the sixth playthrough that got a hilariously worse time than the matching fifth, what happened there?
At 9 years of age I had such a hard time in the mansion because of that, didn’t they change it in fire red to a jagged ledge? Gen 2 had loads of terrain puzzles that I really enjoyed and I felt like they all made sense to my 11 year old brain
I loved dugtrio as a kid. It’s fast and strong but it dies a lot. Not ideal for a solo run but I still have a soft spot for it.
I think "Sike" works on a big level beyond your given reasons. This game was released in the 90s, and one of the "phrases" I remember people throwing around everywhere was "Psyche!"
Sike art with the fisher in Ike's clothes with his pole as the sword would be amazing.
Hi Scott. Thoughts on patching out 1/255 misses to improve production consistency? I know it’s a legit part of gen 1 but it seems to me that because it’s so rare you can’t account for it, but it can easily doom an entire run just by happening once. I don’t know how hard it would be to do that, I assume it’s a normal enough off-by-one issue. This would be a similar modification (in terms of purpose) to what you’ve already done by removing certain wild encounters.
you should try doing 1st stage VS 2nd stage pokemon of the same evolutionary line
example; Staryu VS Starmie
that way you could test exactly how much the pokemon improves speed wise, just by evolving
great "speaking of D, the letter D" into dugtrio segue joke
https://youtu.be/xTFtPmc6f-o?t=3240
"I have saved Bubblebeam just so I have 4 times damage"
But Earthquake would still have been better there: 2x damage on 150 is 300, 4x on 65 is 260. And Marowak has a better Atk than Special!
Did you change Sabrina's gym to warp straight to her? If you mentioned it in a previous video and I forgot, let me know! I'll go watch that one too.
For dugtrio you discuss needing to keep dig on your set for the mid game, but doesn’t it start with the move? So you have a TM of it in hand, could delete it and relearn it later? Not sure for what, just for more move flexibility
I'd really really love to see a reaction of one of the original devs to one of these analysis. I have a hunch they never in their lives anticipated, that people, let alone fans, would ever dive that deep into what can only be described as the very core of the code. It must feel surreal, given that it was basically marketed as a pure kid's game way back when.
