  1. I think games should do away with Easy, Medium, Hard & Extra Hard.

You only truly need 2 difficulties. Medium & Hard. It'll help so many games if their baseline gameplay is finely tuned to one difficulty mainly – hard. Then simply give the player a bit more health & ammo/items on Medium & give the enemies less attacks/generally slower moves. Don't change the damage output though.

  2. So you're telling me that taking cover and quickly dying from getting shot in a war game is not good? The arcade style you mention should only be in multiplayer. Makes absolutely no sense to play as if you're in a multiplayer match in the campaign when there's cutscenes you're supposed to watch, dialogue you're supposed to listen to, etc.

  3. Time Splitters 2 had the best difficulty mode. The harder the difficulty, the more the map would open up. New areas and quests giving you a whole new experience. It's a shame this is never brought up

  4. I didn't know you still played destiny 2. I stopped a while back. As you put it I felt like a abused house wife. I just wanted to love it but every time I came back it beat me again and again. I'm still here on destiny 1 and having a wonderful time.

  5. I don't think that rewarding "beating a boss without being hit" with "more HP" is a good idea.

If the reward for my skill is something that my skill proves I don't need, then it's a crappy reward.
On the flip side, those who actually desire the reward aren't going to have the skill to get it.

    It's lose-lose.

  6. for a lot of games, it is made around the Normal difficulty, since that is what a majority of people play.

so modes like Easy, Hard, and ones even over hard just get a couple tweaks to satisfy those who want to play on a harder difficulty.

I play games on normal, then If I do want the challenge, I go on hard, but that does not happen much really since Normal is good enough for me

  7. If you underwent mitosis you could conceivably create twice as much content at the same length and fantastic quality that you're currently keeping. Just an idea.

  8. I agree with most of what you said in the video. Also, nice joke at 04:00, but be careful because this sentence would most likely be somewhat offensive to Muslims. As we consider (Allah) as the God that is unmatched by no one. So saying you could become him/have his abilities is something that we don't find pleasing, especially when you use the word (Allah). Greetings from the Middle east.

  9. Difficulty is just difficulty it means doing the same thing is now harder. It's like lifting if it's something with low weight it's easy to lift but if it's heavier it's more difficult. So this video is talking of a non existent issue. If you want the game to be fun play at the difficulty level that gives that fun. If you can't handle harder difficulty than don't play harder difficulty.

  10. Kingdom Come Deliverance has the best hardcore mode. They take away fast travel, the compass, and quest markers unless you are within a few yards of your goal. Instead of staring at a minimap, you're literally using the sun to figure out which way North is, and are fully immersed in the game world. I wish more games could get it right like this.

  11. Dude, why is YouTube doing this to you? I have watched nearly all of your videos. Watched many of them several times. And yet I have to manually search for you to find out you uploaded content. I even have your bell ticked lol.

  12. Whenever I play games that I like and find them "easy" I switch the gears are introduce challenges on myself to increase the difficulty level. For instance; playing without taking damage, playing without upgrading, playing without killing anyone, playing with a 1% health status e.t.c.
It makes you realize how hard it is to actually complete level/mission that you would normally do. You can say it adds somewhat of realism to it…kinda.

  13. I hesitated to watch as i thought that would be another blanter against Souls difficulty. I was wrong. I genuinely apologize.

When i discovered dark souls (yes, it is always about this game), i was literally destroyed : i wasn't a super hero, a one man army anymore. I had to actually build myself up from scratches to become a better player. It is not that i hate casual games, no, i love some "easy" games when their story/art direction/gameplay are genius. I came to hate rather difficulty sliders, because developpers just dont know what to do with it. I dont even play at highest difficulties anymore, because they dont mean a thing, even trophies arent "interesting" enough (i became quite nitpicky with time!).

Now i remember God Hand and its fantastic adaptive difficulty : it doesnt ramp up damage taken as you play better, enemies also act faster, and use more vicious moves. Like you said, this is the moment when the game shines because you have to use its every mechanics, and GOD, this game pushed me to my limits! I yelled some Ace Ventura lines as i finally beat the game on DIE difficulty, which holds up to its name really well, without even being unfair!

  14. I hate Roguelikes and espically rogue-lites. How are you expected to learn the game when everything changes everytime you die?
I think generally (Though there are exceptions) Roguelikes are what lazy developers make

  15. Do not get me started about destiny 2 your take 3 yrs ago was so right bang on that game now just restricts your load out as well as turn everything into a bullet sponge I really would like to to see a vid on destiny 2 so people can see what it’s becoming

  16. This was a great, appropriately simple way to talk about difficulty.
People like to overcomplicate the subject (and journalists are greatly at fault), there's a guy who made a film length video on difficulty and affective difficulty and bla bla bla. Like, at some point there isn't a clear statement being made.

  17. Great video. I've come to call what you were describing with Undermine as "learned" vs "earned" progression. Both are important and mixing them well when developing games often leads to the best results.
Difficulty settings are lazy design though, imo. A game designed to be good w/o difficulty settings will almost always be better than one designed to be good with them.

  18. Game developers should opt to scale the complexity of the game rather than arbitrary difficulty factors. The challenge should revolve around cognitive decision making rather than optimizing the game's unfairness.
