The autopsy didn't say he survived. He had a broken back (T3, I believe) and multiple other broken bones. His lungs were expanded but no smoke was found, only blood. And he was severely burnt, all but his back, butt and feet. If he was that burnt and still alive, there would be smoke/ soot in his lungs.
