  1. My friend saw what they call the beist of Dartmoor, a big black cat close up enough to recognise it. He says some people he knows seen it as well. My theory is, back in 70's or 80's when a law was passed that you couldn't have certain animals for pets ( remember when Harrods used to sell animals?) people who could afford to take it away to say the jungles of Africa, they simply abandoned them in the wilds of the countryside. Some have breeded since then?

  2. Yeah, I saw one in Lincolnshire. We were going home at the end of our holiday, and I just happened to look out the side window, only to see a big black puma on a farm track, clearly much bigger than a domestic cat, 2 crows not too far away for size comparison.
They're very distinct, not having rounded lines like a domestic cat or dog. They have very angular, almost squarish lines.

Within months, my son (who was 7 at the time) saw a brownish-grey puma walk past his bedroom window and out of our garden (in the middle of the countryside).
He was really scared (I didn't see it at all), but I dismissed it as a deer.
It was over 10 years later, I was talking to a lady on the local bus when she mentioned a puma that had been seen stalking sheep in the area for a few weeks. So, my son had made no mistake after all.

To be quite honest, I'm just happy having that glimpse of a big cat and no more. I wouldn't go pursuing one. I've often thought about the possibility of meeting with another big cat sometime, as I do a lot of walking and foraging, often going places very few other people go.

  3. My Dad used to do cross country running and he spotted a large black puma like cat on a couple of occasions in Shropshire. This looked more like a dog to me and I spotted a person walking in front of it. Bit risky going after it on your own though Geoff! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ•

  4. I know we had a panther in Lenham near Maidstone about 14 years ago. I had a six foot 300 metre electric fence around our paddock which housed our chickens, turkeys ect. Two llamas guarded it against dogs. We came home after shopping, been out for an hour. Both of the turkeys had been attacked and killed, one was literally a carcass stripped to the bone, the other turkey was nowhere to be seen and must have been carried off. We checked the fence for any holes in the chain link and it was intact. It was an animal that could scale a six foot fence and not be attacked by the llamas. On a separate occasion we was walking in our small wood when the dog was completely spooked and came running past us. There was an oak tree which had a branch overhanging the paddock which must have been how it got over the electric fence. It was a very disturbing experience.

  5. Hysterical! Thanks for the laugh. You know it's a dog right? ๐Ÿ˜… Owner of 4 dobers, males had particularly big pointy paws with high pads. Guessing it's an aging new foundland lagging behind its owner can see walking by the hedgerow when it goes through the gated bit. Anyhoo! GUESS THE BREED TIME ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜…

  6. If you're that interested in seeing a big cat . Why not put a hidden nature camera with a movement sensor on it. Did you see a farmhouse nearby? If so, it could have been one of their dogs.

  7. Cats don't leave claw marks in prints, they retract their claws when walking, dogs can't retract their claws so leave claw marks in their prints there dog paw prints…. Your barking up the wrong tree ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

  8. That's a dog. Those footprints are dog footprints, and you can see that it's walking on an obviously well-trodden footpath through the field. You can also see a person, probably it's owner, walking away behind the hedge to the left.

    No big cat. Unsurprisingly.
