  1. If Google makes another attempt at trying to break into the gaming market, they should expect a complete lack of trust from developers and from players after the way they've handled Stadia.

  2. The lack of communication is terrible, of course, but it's not exactly out of the ordinary. I've been in companies which were not going to close until one day, they did. There were signs, but never a statement that we would be shutting down. One day, there was a meeting, and we were told that was it. I recall one poor guy who had interned with us FROM FRANCE (I'm in the UK), and had just returned after finishing his degree, only to discover that he was not going to have a job in a couple of days. Don't think I'd ever seen him angry before that. Rightly so, too.
I can only speak for the computer industry, I don't know if this applies elsewhere, but lack of communication from the management about impending doom is just something that happens. And when the company is the size of Google/Alphabet, complaining about it is kind of like screaming into a hurricane. Google may be finished as a gaming company (until they try again and throw money around, and everyone develops selective amnesia), but this is going to remain a common way of doing business for pretty much every company, large or small.

  3. Obviously Google handled this very poorly, that's pretty clear, but at the end of the day did anyone really think the Stadia was going to succeed? Regardless of who is behind it, be it a huge company like google or some upstart, it seems pretty clear at this point that no one else is going to be able to break into the "dedicated game hardware thing" market, and on the off chance someone does, it's not going to be with some sort of android powered box that connects to your TV. Google isn't the first to try this, basically everyone else who has tried this approach has met the same fate. All the money in the world can't sell a product that doesn't really have a market to begin with. Again, this isn't to dismiss the developers involved, but I do feel like anyone who was targeting the Stadia as some sort of main platform was playing a losing game from the onset.

  4. I feel no sympathy for anyone Dumb enough to interact with stadia or use it as you're sole gaming platform. We all knew it would fail and cloud gaming is trash unless paired with local hardware and even then digital or physical is a better option.

  5. I couldn't care less that developers are upset about this. I only care that this hopefully sends a message that we do not want cloud gaming, EVER. This is 100% a win for gamers.

  6. Given how terrible "gaming as a streaming service" is for actual gamers anyone developing for this thing got what they deserved. I hope they cry about it and blinded by their tears, stub their toe repeatedly before going bankrupt, re-evaluating their life choices, and moving on to another industry.

  8. Stadia has been a colossal waste of time and money, and all it would have taken was them actually considering what gamers want.
I'm still pissed I had to sit there for prolly hours of accumulated time watching that stadia ad that was on yt for months.

  9. If I can't sit down and play my game after the apocalypse happens, I don't want it lol. Cloud gaming in an isolated system where you don't actually own anything will always be at risk, I probably won't be changing my mind. Console/PC gaming where you own a phsyical disk will always be superior, and a digital download that can't be taken away comes second. Any cloud gaming service from here on out will need to work to earn their users trust after this bullshit from google (largest tech company in the world!). I feel really sorry for game devs who poured their time, energy, and passions into games just to not be able to release them… it should honestly be illegal for Google to just be able to cut it off like this, do contracts mean nothing? Or did they write contracts that included a scenario like this? Extremely disappointing but not altogether surprising

  10. Oh it is down ?

Well, "who would have thought that this would happen" wink*, wink*

    No seriously, this is sarcasm.

I am sorry for anyone who had to put in work for this.

  11. I have a hard time believing Google ever took this seriously in the first place. Companies this large do market viability research way before the product is green lit with a budget, there’s no way their market research said
“Yep, That’s best way to price this, Charge full retail for each game whether or not they own an existing key”

  12. I think, legitimately, that Google has the worst communication skills of any giant company to ever exist, Youtube has poor internal and external communication, Gmail support is almost entirely bot driven, and now they're closing down Stadia with 0 word of warning to anyone including business partners.

    Can they do anything right?

  13. As someone who's played tangle tower, I highly recommend it. An excellent murder mystery puzzle game, with fun characters and wonderful writing. I encourage anyone who sees this to check it out on steam.

  14. The worst part is this kind of decisions arent made quickly they must have known for months they were going to kill stadia and chose to tell none of the devs they were wasting it all.
