  1. Generally what I've heard is that the fall of the Western Roman Empire marked the start of the middle ages, and the fall of Constantinople marked the end of it.

    Edit: Oh, and Hira Maximus is probably supposed to be Hiram Maxim, inventor of several types of machine guns (and amusement park rides, from what I remember.)
