  1. Derecho is a literal land hurricane. These storms pack sustained winds 70mph – 100 mph. These come through u get in your basement or concrete structure period. I witnessed the Cedar Rapids Iowa derecho & that storm scared me. I don't get scared of storms usually. This is Mother Nature being royally pissed off!!!

  2. We were anchored in Put-In-Bay at Middle Bass Island on Lake Erie one afternoon. We had just motored across a glassy hot Lake Erie about a hour before anchoring.
Then looking westward a black wall of cloud approached. Within moments the winds rose to 80 mph. Luckily we had put two anchors out.
Other boats were picked up and set on top of docks and washed ashore. Our dingy was “floating” three feet above the water before the painter broke and it went flying away.
This Derecho lasted about 20 minutes before it calmed down.

  3. Count your blessings yours was not as bad as the one in eastern iowa in 2020. Look at the video shot in Cedar Rapids Iowa and you will count your blessings.

  4. I’m located in the Hamilton Illinois area, to the East of Keokuk Iowa. And we have recorded wind speeds of over 95mph. This storm has devastated our small town counties.
