Denny On How To Fix the Short Tracks and Who is Number 1 at Hendrick

Denny Hamlin Details how to fix the short track racing problem for NASCAR’s Cup series at Martinsville during their tire test and beyond. Also I will discuss Hendricks’s number 1 driver dilemma is it Kyle Larson or is it Chase Elliott.

  1. 5 or 9, no. 1?
I’m a 5 fan and picked Larson to sweep his rookie year and earn R.O.Y. Chase is highspeed, he is, flippin’ darn good – N🚫 arguing that. At this moment, I’m unable to accurately determine who’s Hendrick’s no. 1.

  2. Goodyear has played it safe with compounds all year, and I can't blame them (Indy '08). I think softer compounds would've helped at most tracks this year, with Richmond being the obvious exception. Maybe something to look forward to in the future!

  4. I think chase and Kyle are kind of equal and being number one at Hendrick right now. On a side note I hope Kyle B ends up at Kaulig. I imagine kaulig will throw what money he can unto the car and it will be interesting what Kyle can do with the car. They do need to fix the short track racing.

  5. Silverspoon is Mr. H & JGs #1. Kyle is a better driver and will win more races than the #9. The #5 is the Hendrick #1 in everyone else's eyes. How do you spell power struggle? JJ vs JG?

  6. BB I’m with Hamlin and glad he is speaking up with a clear good analysis. Hope NASCAR gives an ear to it. Also calling a #1 between Kyle & Chase is complex. They are both xlnt and smart. I love both of these guys – it’s a toss up for me. What a problem to have for RH !! Thnx dude !!

  7. Larson and Elliott are both great. He should just handle it like Jimmie and Jeff, because Larson and Elliott have already shown that they’re the elite drivers of this era. Personally think Larson is better tho

  8. They've turned the cars into drift cars with the hard chasis, lack of nose travel (up & down through soft springs). Do you remember when they would come out of the corners with front to rear nose weight transfer down to the flagstand, lift and roll the corners? They forget that Mville is two drag strips with corners at the ends. Richard wore them out in the late 60s and 70s with the charger rolling over to the right rear (left rear to right rear transfer and front left to right rear transfer).

  9. I think the transaxle should be able to hold the torque that comes with 750hp. That should be next year’s base package instead of the 670 package. The 670 just doesn’t quite have the power these cars need especially on short tracks

  10. id say chase is the top guy at hms, hes had more wins, more top 5s, more laps led (twice as many as kyle), if you compare the difference between average start and average finish kyle larson loses 5 positions and chase gains 1 position. the only thing theyre tied with is poles and top 5s. i think theyll both make it to phoenix, but all the set up info etc will be to benefit chase more than kyle since chase is statistically the best driver. if youre going to have a car designed around winning at phoenix, id rather give it to the guy who gains a position rather than the driver who loses 5 positions.

  11. Great topic again! Big motors and small tires, or at least tires that drop off significantly, put the emphasis on the driver. That would solve the debate about who's top dog at Hendricks as Kyle would dominate. Thanks for another great show…

  12. It seems to me that the diffuser has made the racing better on intermediate tracks by putting the dirty air directly behind the car. On tracks where there are multiple grooves the trailing car can find some clean air so the racing is better. But at a place like Martinsville there is only one dominant groove so the trailing car is forced to run directly behind the lead car where there is more dirty air than ever before. I’m with KFB on at least trying to run without the diffuser at short tracks. Obviously we need more horsepower as well. It makes no sense that you can just buy a car from the dealership with close to as much hp as a racecar from the top series. I wonder if you could win the pole at Martinsville with a stock Hellcat Redeye.

  13. I SAY LET THEM HAVE A 1000 HORSE POWER ON SHORT TRACKS…! BUT THAT WOULD LEAVE OUT THE FORDS AND TOYOTAS UNLESS THEY USED A SUPERCHARGER…LOL ..😆 I WOULD ALSO BET THE OTHER OWNERS WOULD LIKE TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AS RICK HENDRICK DOES …! ELLIOTT OR LARSON…..? ELLIOTT OR LARSON…? 🤔🏁
