I think democracy is great, but only when you have a good and moral society. When society isn’t good and moral, you have chaos. Monarchy isn’t the answer. The US had so much potential, because we are a democratic republic. But the problem is that all the good and moral leaders died out decades ago, and yes, RvW played a fundamental role in changing our society’s minds and hearts. The people in power now have been in power for a long time, and they live in a bubble. We haven’t been great for a long time. We are mediocre for many things and terrible about a lot of things. It’s shameful, for example, that we have so many homeless people…all the while, the wealthy in this country help build homes for people in Africa.
This same generation that has led us into the ground is the generation that started it all. They allowed something like RvW to even exist. Their parents were right about them, sadly.

Unfortunately, after divorce become a reality and Law, there was a lot of bad things happening. Men would throw their wives on the street and say "she abandoned the home, she has another man!". And people believed those evil men — granting them separation. And the Church used to ally on their side. There were many cases like that in my country, Brazil. What was the truth? That man had met another woman, younger or more beautiful and he had only one way to get to her: by getting rid of his faithful wife. Other men did that to get custody of the kids. And the more powerful the men were, more abuse of Church and State happened and many women's lives were destroyed. Most recently I know another case from Argentina. A lady was married to a wealthy men and used to beat her and the kids. The Catholic Church allied with him because he is very powerful and influential — Santander family –, and that woman lost her children. She found a lawyer to fight him but she didn't have the $$ and influence. He won. The Church in Argentina is very corrupt, btw. So many times the Church allied with liars and injustices, because rich and powerful men harassed the church and the community and got away with their crimes. As a Catholic, I abhor these stories, sad stories when the Church took the wrong side for fear or for money. 😢
